PowerCompass Quick Overview
Hi, this is Ron Johnson with Intersil Corporation, and welcome to a getting started tutorial on a new tool being developed here at Intersil. The tool is called PowerCompass. If you are not familiar with that you can go to our website at, www.intersil.com and in the search bar type in PowerCompass, and when that returns the results you will see in the first result there, you can click on that to go to the download page. This download page will give you a little bit more information about the tool and will allow you to get started by downloading the tool.
Just to give you a brief overview of the tool, the tool is centered around power, it allows you to do simple product selection, either by selecting a competitor device. We currently have about 4,500 competitor power parts loaded into the list here. Selecting the drop-down, you are able to cross to the click nearest Intersil part.
In addition to that, we have another facet of the tool, which is a lot more powerful. It allows you to set up a multi-rail system with multiple input rails and many outputs, up to 10. Once you've selected that, and selected some other filters, you can see a list of suggested parts. From those parts you're allowed to select options to compare for each output rail. Once you go to the summary tab of your analysis, it will allow you to compare different rails. Which one is the most efficient, least power dissipation and other parameters as well. And then going to the next step beyond this, we allow you to generate a reference design from that and what you will get is a notification email that will contain the OrCAD schematic, as well as a PDF and a BOM of material for that complete system.
