Andy: Within the mobile space, power management is becoming very, very important.

Necip: You could say that the market is moving more toward our turf. The power management requirements of some of these smaller form factors are becoming more complex.

Andy: There's demands on the application that are changing hugely. The devices are becoming more power-hungry. The screen has more power. The applications processor is more powerful. The size of the devices is becoming smaller and thinner. All of this is putting huge demands on the power management, and this is really playing into companies that have advanced power management, such as Intersil.

Necip: We have this multi-phase modulation capability that has been honed in generation after generation in the computing space.

Andy: Some of our engagements with PMICs that we've had have primarily been driven by customers coming to us, asking us for these high performance solutions. So, what we are doing here in Intersil is really using some of our advanced power management techniques that we've developed over the decades. Some of those techniques are very fast transient response. We can react to loads at very high speeds. That comes from our heritage in the microprocessor world. We have very high efficiency solutions so we can keep the battery going for longer and the systems going for longer. And now we're evolving this into the smaller geometry and the smaller form factors to address mobile devices such as tablets and smart phones. Intersil has a very rich portfolio of power products that we've serviced for years and developed some very high performance discreet functions and all in the same process. As the applications become thinner, smaller, and border areas become compressed, there is a dramatic need to integrate these functions onto a single piece of silica. And that is one of the benefits that Intersil brings to the application space, is the very broad array of IP and very high performance IP that we can now integrate.

Necip: We can certainly take the IP that we have created in Intersil for computing space and leverage it to a much broader set of applications.
