Intersil’s D2Audio® Demonstrates Superior Performance of Fourth Generation Digital Audio Engine (DAE-4) at CES 2009
INTERNATIONAL CES, Las Vegas, NV, January 8, 2009 – Intersil
Corporation (NASDAQ Global Select: ISIL), a world leader in the design and
manufacture of high-performance analog and mixed signal semiconductors, today
announced the demonstration and sampling of D2Audio’s D2-41X58-LR. This family
of devices using D2Audio’s fourth generation Digital Audio Engine (DAE-4)
exceeds previous superior sound quality standards, while its amazing low cost
makes it perfect for high volume applications such as TVs, personal media
players, cell phone docking stations, media PCs, gaming PCs, and multimedia
platforms.

Well known in the audio industry for superior audio quality, Intersil’s
D2Audio devices feature an even higher level of audio quality in the new DAE-4,
deriving its superior audio performance from proven D2Audio technology. DAE-4
improvements include an even greater Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) of >105 dB and
Total Harmonic Distortion plus Noise (THD + N) performance of <0.1%.
The new low-cost 5-channel DAE-4 also features Advanced Audio Processing
Support and D2Audio SoundSuite™ Enhancements, providing users with a more
immersive audio experience. This includes the sensation of an expanded audio
sound field, the clarity of focused “center-channel” dialog and spoken content,
and the extended low-frequencies expected in explosions and other special
effects. Customers’ audio products using the DAE-4’s integrated Loudspeaker
Compensation can also achieve higher sound quality from low cost speakers
despite the constraints levied by today’s elegant cosmetic designs and the
dictated use of inexpensive speakers.
Earlier DAE audio solutions focused on delivering exceptional sound quality
for mid-level and higher-end audio products, but through cost-effective
optimization and the implementation of new proprietary technology, Intersil’s
D2Audio is able to offer the advanced 5-channel DAE-4 at about half the cost of
previous, higher-end ICs.
The superior flexibility of the DAE-4 simplifies new product development by
integrating the I2S, S/PDIF Digital Inputs, high-performance Class-D amplifier
and DAC Outputs. The DAE-4 supports multiple amplifier output configurations,
including Stereo, 2.1-channel, Bi-Amp, 4-channel and Amplifier/DAC combinations.

representative. Projected price upon release is $1.75 at 10,000 piece
quantities.
