World's Smallest Push-Button DCPs Provide Easier, Flexible Solutions for Digital Control in Power-Conscious Designs
MILPITAS, CA, February 28, 2008 – Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ Global Select:
ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance analog
semiconductors, today announced the
ISL23511
and ISL23512 low-noise, low-power, single push-button digitally controlled
potentiometers in small 2mm x 1.6mm micro-TQFN packages.
In addition to an easy push-button interface, these DCPs feature a two-mode
automatic increment/decrement function that allows the customer to hold the pin
low until the designated position is reached. The initial hold will increment or
decrement every 250ms, and then enter the second mode after one second. At that
point, the wiper position will change every 50ms.
Both the
ISL23511 and ISL23512 feature a rugged +125°C operating temperature rating
that allows them to be designed into high-temperature environments.
The
ISL23511 and ISL23512 both integrate a shutdown mode that disconnects the
top of the resistor chain and moves the wiper to the lowest position, minimizing
power consumption. The purpose of the shutdown is to completely disconnect the
current path thru the DCP but still keep the digital logic active. In addition
it can serve as a quick calibration when GND level needs to be verified.
The ISL23512 is a 16-tap device that is ideal for applications that require only
a limited amount of adjustment settings. The
ISL23511,
on the other hand, features 32 taps for designs needing higher resolution for
more adjustment options.
Before July 2008, Intersil will also release the ISL22511 and ISL22512
non-volatile versions of these products in the same tiny TQFN packages. This
will further expand the DCP offerings for applications that need to retain the
last setting at power-up.
Pricing and Availability
The
ISL23511 and ISL23512 are available now in a 10-lead micro-TQFN package in
1,000-unit quantities and are priced at $0.50 and $0.39 respectively. The
ISL23511
is also available in an 8-lead SOIC package and is priced at $0.49 per unit in
1,000-unit quantities.

About Intersil’s Digital Controlled Potentiometer (DCP) Products
Digitally Controlled Potentiometers – also known as DCPs, RDACs, Variable
Resistors, Voltage Dividers, Digital Pots, Digital Potentiometers or EEPOTS –
are one of Intersil’s most prolific product families. The company offers the
widest selection of low-to-high resolution digitally-controlled potentiometers
in single, dual and quad configurations. Available in both linear and non-linear
tapers, these digital potentiometers replace mechanical potentiometers and trim
resistors in applications where digital control allows microprocessor
interfacing and extended functionality. Intersil continues to innovate in the
general purpose markets with the smallest packages, highest operating
temperature, and integrated digital control products for industrial, medical,
display and other consumer applications. Intersil DCPs can be used anywhere an
adjustment or calibration is needed.
