Intersil's PWM Controller Increases Efficiency and Saves Space
— Intersil's ISL6535 Features Excellent Output Voltage Regulation, Integrated 3A MOSFET Gate Drivers and Near-Chipscale Footprint with Small 4mm x 4mm QFN Package
MILPITAS, CA, January 29, 2007 – Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ Global Select:
ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance analog
semiconductors, today introduced the
ISL6535
high-performance PWM (pulse width modulation) controller. This device integrates
the control, gate drivers, output adjustment, monitoring and protection
functions into a near-chipscale-sized 4mm x 4mm 16-lead QFN package.
Intersil’s
ISL6535
integrates 12V, high-speed, 3A MOSFET gate drivers for excellent gate drive
capability and improved efficiency with less expensive MOSFETs. Also, the
converter can source and sink current, which is ideal for DDR (double data rate)
memory applications.
"The
ISL6535 error amplifier features 15MHz gain bandwidth and a 6V/µs slew rate
that enables high converter bandwidth for fast transient performance,” said
Philip Chesley, marketing manager of Intersil’s Desktop Power products group.
“The overcurrent protection monitors the current by using the rDS(ON) of the
upper MOSFET, eliminating the need for a current sensing resistor and reducing
the overall BOM cost.”
Efficient Output Voltage Regulation and Fast Transient Response
The
ISL6535 provides a simple, single feedback loop and voltage mode control
architecture. It includes programmable switching frequency that is adjustable
from below 50kHz to over 1.5MHz.
The output voltage of the converter can be precisely regulated to as low as
0.597V, with a maximum tolerance of ±1% over the commercial temperature range,
and ±1.5% over the industrial temperature range. Full (0% to 100%) PWM duty
cycle support and pre-biased soft-start features are also provided.
