Xicor® to Demonstrate 205 MHz and 230 MHz Analog Front Ends For High Performance UXGA Monitors

X98023 and X98021's Low-Jitter Architecture Provide Enhanced Image Quality at High Resolutions

MILPITAS, California - March 19, 2003 - Xicor, Inc. (Nasdaq: XICO), a leading supplier of highperformance, low power mixed-signal integrated circuits, will be demonstrating two new high speed analog front ends (AFEs) for UXGA applications at the Display Search Conference in San Diego, CA, on April 1-3, 2003. Prototypes of the 230 MHz X98023 and the 205 MHz X98021 AFEs will be used to digitize video signals sent to 20-inch LCD TFT flat panel monitors.

Both the X98023 and X98021 have three independent channels to capture the red, green and blue (RGB) or YUV video signals sent from personal computers, workstations or video set-top boxes to drive an LCD monitor or LCD projector. Each channel has an 8-bit, fully differential signal path to provide the low noise and high performance needed to support high pixel count monitors. The X98023 supports UXGA resolutions (1600 by 1200 pixels) at a refresh rate up to 85 Hz and the X98021 supports UXGA resolutions up to a refresh rate of 75 Hz. Each of these devices has a state-of-the-art internal digital phase-locked loop (DPLL) with 64 phase steps and significantly improved jitter performance over currently available products. On-the-fly display mode optimization is further eased by a unique offset and gain adjustment structure that decouples the gain and offset adjustments and completely eliminates offset error and drift.

"The X98023 and X98021 offer a new level of video performance for high resolution UXGA products," stated John Sramek, general manager of Xicor's Signal Processing Division. "Our DPLLs eliminate the trade-offs and complexity of traditional analog PLL solutions to provide sharper images and improved video quality for high resolution monitors, projectors and televisions. Display Search has recently reported that Q4 2002 shipments of large-area (10" and greater) LCD TFT displays rose 15% quarteron- quarter and 27% year-on-year to a record high of 18.7 million units, and that within this market there were 'shifts to larger sizes'. We are looking forward to demonstrating our products at their Conference."

The X98023 and X98021 are fabricated in a generic 0.18 micron CMOS process for easy integration with additional digital functions in future products.

The X98023 and X98021 will be demonstrated at the Display Search Conference in April and demonstration boards are available now.

Xicor is sponsoring the Registration Reception at the Conference the evening of March 31, 2003, from 7 to 9 pm.
