Xicor Offers Lowest Power Digitally Controlled Potentiometer
MILPITAS, Calif., Mar.22, 1999 - XICOR, Inc. (NASDAQ: XICO) today announced the X9317, the industry's lowest power digitally controlled potentiometer. The X9317 is a 100 tap digitally controlled potentiometer combining low power (typical standby current as low as 200nA), and low voltage operation (down to 2.7v) in an ultra small 8 lead TSSOP package. This device is ideal for battery operated, mobile products that demand the absolute lowest power components available, such as laptop and palmtop computers, hand-held bar code scanners and fiber optic communications.
The X9317 uses a simple up/down three-wire interface, simplifying the software control required for programmable variable resistance. The resistance value is stored in a nonvolatile register and can be recalled on power up.
Applications for the X9317 include RF tuning in wireless systems, LCD contrast controls for laptop and palm computers, and laser diode trimming in hand-held bar code scanners and fiber optic communications.
"Many of these high volume applications are battery powered portable devices, and they require components that consume very little power in order to remain operational for long periods of time. The X9317 sets the standard for low power digital variable resistance," said Bob Anderson, mixed signal product marketing manager.
The X9317 will be available in both a 10Kohm (X9317W) and a 50K ohm (X9317U) end-to-end resistance configuration. The part will come in both the 8 lead TSSOP (V8) and SOIC (S8) packages.
