Xicor® Introduces the Worlds Smallest Non-Volatile Digitally Controlled Potentiometer - X93154 Series
New standards in performance and integration with 1mm2 package footprint, low power and competitive pricing
MILPITAS, California July 7, 2003 Xicor, Inc. (Nasdaq: XICO), a leading supplier of high performance analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits, today announced the worlds smallest digitally controlled potentiometer with the introduction of the X93154 offered in both an industry standard MSOP and flip-chip package with a footprint of only 1 mm2. The small form factor, competitive pricing and ultra low power consumption of the X93154 addresses new market needs for high volume and space constrained applications such as portable or personal communications devices.
The X93154 family is a 32-tap potentiometer offered in a 50 kO total resistance. Along with dissipating ultra low power at 1µA maximum standby supply current, the X93154 achieves less than ± 0.2 LSB (least significant bit) typical DNL (differential non-linearity). The integration of non-volatile memory for the wiper position provides design advantages over one-time programmable or volatile solutions including lower programming current and the elimination of additional high voltage supplies required by one-time programmable products.
The simple up/down interface can be used for personalized environments like LCD contrast and backlight brightness control in cell phones, PDAs and GPS receivers. The small form factor and reprogrammability is a key component in systems requiring gain, reference voltage and bias calibrations such as common mode amplifier biasing and feedback gain adjustments. Other target applications include process controls requiring parameter retention and data acquisition systems requiring preconfigured reference voltage levels.
Flexibility and adaptability are key components needed to satisfy the high level of integration in todays systems, stated Tony Ochoa, product marketing engineer. By utilizing a new process technology, the X93154 integrates small form factor and competitive pricing to provide an ideal solution to high volume applications, replacing mechanical potentiometers and precision resistors. Production samples are available in 8-lead MSOP and FCP packaging with 1k unit prices starting at $0.53 and $0.38 USD respectively.
