Xicor® Introduces the First Dual Twin-Wiper 256-tap Digitally Controlled Potentiometer X9455 Series
-- Twin wiper potentiometers deliver precision for balanced/feedback networks, level detection and differential circuitry
MILPITAS, California July 17, 2003 Xicor, Inc. (Nasdaq: XICO), a leading supplier of high performance analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits, today announced the first family of twinwiper digitally controlled potentiometers (linear taper) to expand its portfolio of mixed signal products. The X9455 adds the versatility of two independent wiper voltages per potentiometer. The twin- wiper structure of the X9455 can be used for multiple reference generation, window comparator applications, feedback networks and differential voltage applications that require accurate offset adjustment and tight voltage tracking.
The X9455 family combines two separate 256-tap twin- wiper potentiometers along with the flexibility of a dual interface (2-wire serial or UP/DOWN) to allow efficient recalibration between the design lab and production floor. The device is offered in 2.8k, 10k, 50k, and 100k ohm options, which suit a wide variety of applications along with non-volatile memory for wiper position power- up recall. The Integral Non-Linearity (INL) accuracy of better than 0.2 Least Significant Bit (LSB) is geared towards precise adjustments in applications requiring excellent linearity.
Spacing the two wiper positions at a constant value creates a stable high-resolution window voltage for use in window comparators and level detection circuitry. Other target applications include process controls requiring parameter retention, data acquisition systems requiring pre-configured reference voltage levels and signal conditioning circuits requiring window voltage generation. Twin wiper control is also used for balance adjustments in various controllers such as HVAC, laser diodes, bridge amplifiers as well as timer circuits and oscillators. The twin wiper DCP structure and tight linearity of the X9455 make it an ideal solution for common mode biasing in differential voltage applications, stated Jim Pflasterer, director of applications. The compelling motivation for the twin wiper structure is simple; the potentiometer provides accurate balance between the relative wiper voltages in a cost-effective solution.
Production samples are ava ilable in 14-lead TSSOP packaging with 1k unit prices starting at $3.50 USD.
