Xicor® Introduces New Quad and Dual Three Terminal Non-Volatile 256-Tap Digitally Controlled Potentiometer Family
X95820 and X95840 creates new standards in performance and integration while maintaining small form factor, low power and low pricing
MILPITAS, California July 29, 2004 Xicor, Inc. (NASDAQ: XICO), a leading supplier of high performance analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits, today announced a family of non-volatile linear taper 256-tap digitally controlled potentiometers (DCPs) with the introduction of the X95820 (dual DCP) and X95840 (quad DCP).
The X95820 and X95840 offer ultra low power DCPs at highly competitive prices to address new market needs for high volume and space constrained applications. The X95820 and X95840 each feature three terminal, 256-tap wiper DCPs with a 2-wire interface. Along with low power dissipation and a supply voltage range of 2.7V to 5.5V, the X95820 and X95840 also achieves less than ± 0.2 least significant bit (LSB) typical differential non- linearity (DNL).
By being digitally adjustable, these devices can help customers prevent stability issues due to vibration or shock in their systems commonly associated with mechanical potentiometers. Furthermore, unlike one-time programmable or volatile solutions, the X95820 and X95840 integrates non-volatile memory for the wiper position to help lower the programming current and to eliminate additional high voltage supplies required by one-time programmable products.
The integration of reprogrammable solid-state potentiometers with an up/down interface is important in systems requiring multiple gains, reference voltage s and bias calibrations such as common mode amplifier biasing and feedback gain adjustments. The simple 2-wire interface can be used for personalized environments such as LCD contrast and backlight brightness control in cell phones, PDAs and GPS receivers. Other target applications include process controls requiring parameter retention and data acquisition systems requiring preconfigured reference voltage levels.
Xicor is constantly working to provide a robust portfolio of DCPs for our customers, stated Anthony Mercado, product marketing engineer. With the addition of the X95820 and X95840, Xicor is further extending its XDCP line to provide designers with high performance, low power, competitively priced DCPs that they can continue to use well into the future.
Production samples are available in 14-pin TSSOP (dual) and 20-pin TSSOP (quad) packaging with 1k unit prices starting at $1.58 USD for the dual and $2.75 USD for the quad.
