Xicor® Introduces Integrated Power Management Solutions X80000 and X80001
--SMBus Controlled Power Supply Sequencing and Hotswap Controllers Provide Intelligent Power For –48V Data Communication and Telecommunications Applications
MILPITAS, California October 14, 2002 Xicor, Inc. (Nasdaq: XICO), a leading supplier of programmable mixed-signal integrated circuits, today introduced the X80000 and X80001 smart power management products. These devices integrate power sequencing and hot swap functions with an SMBus interface to enable intelligent power supply control in multi- card -48V backplane applications.
The devices' hot swap features allow for insertion and extraction of Line Cards, Network Interface Cards and other peripherals while 48V of power is present on the backplane. Power supply sequencing allows for systematic on/off control of DC-to-DC converters on the line cards or other devices. Through the use of the SMBus, intelligent interfaces allow for modular power distribution designs by reporting voltage, current and manufacturing identification to a control card that can manage power distribution, timing and voltage supplies. The X80000 and X80001 can sequence and control up to five independent DC-to-DC converters.

Design Support
Xicor will provide customers with application notes, evaluation boards and software for Smart Power Plug Sequencing applications. The evaluation platform demonstrates Smart Power Communications by providing Power, Current, Voltage and Manufacturing Identification information from the Smart Device Card (X80000) to a control card (Standard PC host) via an isolated SMBus port. The Evaluation Kit includes application development software and LabVIEWTM 6i drivers that can be used to configure the X80000 for design, prototype or high-volume manufacturing. The evaluation platform contains the Xicor X80000, a power FET and opto-isolators to connect and to sequence up to five DC-DC modules.
Evaluation Boards and Software are available for key customers via the Xicor web site. Production samples are also available for the X80000 and X80001 in 32-lead QFN packaging with prices starting at $3.60 USD.
