Xicor Expands XDCP Product Line
--New single supply quad 64-tap digital potentiometers are ideal for digital systems
MILPITAS, Calif, Sept. 13, 1999 - XICOR, Inc. (NASDAQ: XICO) today announced the X9401 and X9409 quad 64-tap single supply nonvolatile digital potentiometers. The products are ideal for digital systems operating from a single power supply such as digital communications subsystems, cellular basestations and fiber optic transceivers.
The X9401 is a 64-tap nonvolatile digital potentiometer that operates from a single supply voltage. The supply voltage range is 2.7-5.5 volts. The X9401 is ideal for low power applications, with typical standby current less than 0.2 microamperes over the full industrial temperature range (-40 to +85 degrees C). End-to-end resistance options are 10Kohm and 100Kohm. Both the X9401 and X9409 feature four 6 bit EEPROM registers per potentiometer for storage of tap settings and system parameters. This allows the designer to automatically save current resistance value during power down, and to preset resistor values as required by specific system demands. These registers can also be used for arbitrary nonvolatile parameter storage as well.
While the X9401 communicates via a serial port that supports the fast SPI interface, the X9409 communicates via a serial port that supports an industry standard 2-wire interface.
"Typically, digital systems operate from a single 5V supply. These new single supply XDCPs are ideal for these systems," said Paul Standish, director of mixed signal products. "The X9401 and X9409 will bring the full capability of "field programmable" solid state resistance to digital systems. This is well suited for biasing RF amplifiers, controlling display contrast/brightness, dynamically adjusting sensors and biasing laser diodes in fiber optic modules."
Availability and Price
The X9401 and X9409 are available in 24-pin SOIC and TSSOP packages. Pricing at the 1000 piece level is $3.22 for the SOIC package and $4.03 for the TSSOP package. The parts are sampling now and will be in volume production in October 1999.
