Xicor and Yamaha announce start of volume production of Xicor EEPROM-based products at Yamaha Kagoshima Semiconductor, Inc.
MILPITAS, Calif., August 26, 1998 - XICOR, Inc. (NASDAQ: XICO) and Yamaha Corporation (Hamamatsu, Japan) today announced the start of volume production at Yamaha's Kagoshima wafer fabrication facility. Volume production follows the successful transfer in July 1998 of Xicor's EEPROM technology to Yamaha and the successful completion of reliability qualification.
The initial products to be manufactured at Yamaha include both serial and parallel memories. In the near future, production is expected to start on the Xicor Digitally Controlled Potentiometer (XDCP) and system management products.
Xicor and Yamaha entered into a strategic partnership in December, 1996. This partnership involved the transfer of Xicor's current manufacturing process (known as "C5", a 1.2 micron EEPROM technology) and will include Xicor's next generation technology (known as "C7", a 0.6 micron EEPROM technology) into Yamaha's wafer fabrication facilities for the purposes of supporting an increasing portion of Xicor's manufacturing requirements.
"We are very pleased with the way our partnership with Yamaha has progressed," said Bruce Gray, Xicor's president and chief operating officer. "Yamaha's world class manufacturing capabilities are now on-line with Xicor's EEPROM technology. This will ensure that Xicor has manufacturing resources to support the company's growth in the coming years."
"This is a very significant milestone for Yamaha and Xicor," said Tokumasa Ishimoto, general manager, Yamaha Semiconductor Division. "In any partnership, the first objective is to learn how to work together for our mutual success. Today's milestone, the start of volume manufacturing at Yamaha, clearly demonstrates we have accomplished this."

Xicor Company Background
Xicor designs, develops, manufactures and sells nonvolatile in-the-system programmable products which retain information even when system power is turned off or is lost inadvertently. Xicor's product line includes advanced and standard EEPROMs, EEPOT digitally controlled potentiometers, Secure IC's and system control IC's.
In-the-system programmability benefits communications, consumer, computer, office automation, industrial, automotive and military products by adding advanced capabilities. Such capabilities include a much reduced design verification cycle, faster introduction to the market, easy adaptability to changing software and operating environments at the point of use, data security, remote maintainability, and personalization by the user. Many of Xicor's products consume little power, operate well from low voltage battery power sources, and come in small packages making them ideal for hand-held and portable applications.
Xicor products are sold worldwide and are supported by offices located in Asia, Europe, Japan and North America. Headquartered in Milpitas, California, Xicor holds the Underwriters Laboratories Certification of Compliance with the ISO 9001 quality standard and the joint automotive QS 9000 quality standard certification.
