Xicor Adds LabVIEW Tool Support for Mixed Signal Product Family
-- LabVIEW supports high-volume device programming for manufacturing applications
MILPITAS, Calif., November 20, 2000 - Xicor, Inc. (NASDAQ: XICO), and Cal-Bay Systems, Inc., of San Rafael, CA, today announced the release of LabVIEWTM software drivers that support Xicors family of programmable mixed signal products. Jointly developed by the two companies, the Xicor Development Tool driver is built using the industry-standard LabVIEW integrated development environment that accelerates the evaluation and analysis of test and measurement applications worldwide.
The LabVIEW driver is the ideal tool to be used on a high-volume manufacturing line, and allow customers to quickly evaluate or program Xicor programmable mixed signal devices in a breadboarding, prototyping or manufacturing environment.
"LabVIEW is a highly scaleable environment that empowers a large group of developers to jointly collaborate on product designs", said Tony Ochoa, marketing manager for Xicor's Programmable Mixed Signal Products. "The Xicor LabVIEW driver used in conjunction with any of our programmable mixed signal products allows designers to reduce overall development time while increasing their productivity for designs incorporating Xicor's XDCPs and fiber optic products."
The LabVIEW environment operates on industry standard PC platforms and can be downloaded from Xicor's website. Cal-Bay will provide services for LabVIEW driver support and any additional custom EDA services upon request.
By utilizing the LabVIEW software manufacturing companies have reduced their product development time by a factor of up to 10X*. Additionally, LabVIEW has been shown to preserve companies' capital investment in computer and instrumentation hardware by allowing designers to quickly program or calibrate devices in manufacturing or system emulation applications. Using the simple software interface, applications can be easily and quickly programmed, tested and analyzed in real time to check for proper operation and compatibility.
The Xicor Mixed Signal Development Tool The integrated LabVIEW environment comes complete with an easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI) that allows designers to quickly configure the user programmable features of Xicor's programmable mixed signal products. The integrated environment utilizes the lowlevel device drivers to allow programmability of specific features such as voltage gains, comparator threshold levels and other key analog parameters. Knowledge of the LabVIEW environment is not required to utilize the power and flexibility of the product.
The Xicor software tool includes schematics for the PC board which is used as the hardware interface that is connected via a PC parallel port. The Xicor LabVIEW GUI, LabVIEW 5.1 Run-Time System, LabWindows/CVI 5.5 Run-Time System and other low-level LabVIEW device drivers are all included with the integrated tool. The software operates with any PC running Microsoft Windows 98/NT/2000 operating system.
"At Cal-Bay, we've been programming with LabVIEW since 1994. We're using it to develop applications from simple data loggers to complex automated test systems. LabVIEW's graphical programming environment is ideal for circuit design as it allows the designer to quickly write a program to test a prototype. LabVIEW programs can then be ported from design to characterization and to manufacturing test," said Sorin Grama, project manager at Cal-Bay.
Availability
Available now, the Mixed Signal LabVIEW Development Tool is downloadable, free.
