WLAN Industry Leaders Integrating Intersil's PRISM GT Chip Set with PRISM Nitro Technology into Innovative 802.11g Wireless LAN Solutions
-- PRISM Nitro™ technology dramatically increases 802.11g throughput by up to 50%~-- PRISM GT™ chip set outclasses the competition with up to 75% better power management
MILPITAS, CA, June 11, 2003 Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high performance analog and wireless networking solutions, announced today that Corega, D-Link Systems Inc., Fujitsu Siemens Computers, I/O DATA, Linksys, NETGEAR, Inc., and SMC Networks are developing innovative new 802.11g draft-compliant products using Intersils second generation PRISM GT chip set with PRISM Nitro technology. The new advanced PRISM GT chip set solution incorporates Intersils SingleSource Driver Suite with PRISM Nitro technology, integrates Intersils new power management solution that far exceeds all 802.11g WLAN competitors in head-to-head comparative testing, and provides the industries most comprehensive security suite that will allow customers to seek Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) certification for all PRISM GT-based products.
Our customers are designing innovative new 802.11g products with PRISM Nitro which delivers up to a 3x improvement in throughput for 802.11g clients operating in mixed-mode wireless networks and up to 50% greater throughput performance in 802.11g only networks, said Larry Ciaccia, vice president and general manager of Intersils Wireless Networking Product Group. PRISM GT is offering our customers a reduced total bill of materials and industry leading features, and performance make it the ideal for their 802.11g solutions.
PRISM Nitro technology uses packet bursting and enhanced protection mechanisms to significantly increase PRISM GTs 802.11g-only and mixed-mode (802.11b and 802.11g) performance while remaining fully standards compliant. PRISM GT together with PRISM Nitro technology delivers the full bandwidth of 54 Mbps, with enhanced throughput for bandwidth intensive applications like video, yet ensures full backwards compatibility with 802.11b devices, and full interoperability with other 802.11g standards-compliant brands.
Intersils PRISM GT chip set is fully compliant with the 802.11g Draft Standard, which moved closer to final approval by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) at the meeting held in Dallas, TX recently. Final approval is expected early this month.
PRISM GT beats the competition with up to 75% better power consumption
Our new PRISM GT power management technology achieved the lowest standby current, receive current and average idle current in direct testing against our competitors 802.11g solutions, added Ciaccia. PRISM GTs Power Save Mode achieved both the lowest average idle and active currents beating the competition by up to 75% and PRISM GTs receive mode current was also up to 35% lower than competitive solutions. These factors enable PRISM GT to consume significantly lower power than competitive solutions over a wide range of user activity. This spells longer battery life for users of notebook PCs equipped with PRISM GT. About Intersil
