TollBridge Selects Intersil RSLIC for Voice Interface in DSL Devices
Intersil RSLIC Connects Existing Analog with New Digital Infrastructures
IRVINE, Calif., October 25, 2000 Intersil (NASDAQ: ISIL), a leading systems-oriented provider of circuits and semiconductors for the integrated communications market, announced today that its HC55185 ringing subscriber line interface circuit (RSLIC) has been selected for TollBridge Technologies’ TB50 and TB55 integrated access devices (IADs).
IRVINE, Calif., October 25, 2000 Intersil (NASDAQ: ISIL), a leading systems-oriented provider of circuits and semiconductors for the integrated communications market, announced today that its HC55185 ringing subscriber line interface circuit (RSLIC) has been selected for TollBridge Technologies TB50 and TB55 integrated access devices (IADs).
The TollBridge IADs deliver multiple-line local telephone service and continuous high-speed Internet service over a single broadband connection, significantly reducing the cost of bundled service offerings to small businesses. Intersils HC55185 RSLIC facilitates the connection between traditional analog lines and digital networks. The Intersil device transmits both voice and ringing signals without the requirement of external ringing generators or relays.
"The demand for voice capabilities over broadband networks, including DSL, cable, wireless, T1 and fiber, is growing at an increasing rate, " said Michael Althar, vice president of Intersils VoIP products. "Were pleased that TollBridge chose the Intersil RSLIC solution for their IADs. This demonstrates, once again, the markets recognition that Intersil supports and develops broadband communication technology by enabling existing analog voice infrastructure to interface with new digital infrastructure. As we begin to see a greater infusion of intense innovation in the broadband arena in the US and abroad, Intersil remains committed to providing world-class solutions in support of this exciting market."
According to Telechoice, Inc., a market strategy consultancy for the telecommunications industry, businesses often underutilize 50 percent or more of the bandwidth on their voice lines. As broadband networks become commonplace, voice capabilities will increasingly be used to reduce telephony service costs for these businesses by using a single line to connect both voice and data traffic to a carriers core network while preserving toll-quality voice.
The Intersil RSLIC voice interface maintains low power budgets while providing the longest ringing loop range with minimal board space, and is used in VoBroadband applications. Intersils device combines guaranteed 100V operation with low 80mW standby power and low active power consumption in a non-proprietary single integrated circuit (IC) solution.
"Intersil technology is a key part of the TollBridge IADs, " said Agnes Imregh, vice president marketing, TollBridge Technologies. "The Intersil voice interface helps users of the TB50 and TB55 to reduce infrastructure costs by delivering IP-based voice services that match the quality of calls that are placed over traditional circuit switched infrastructures. "
The TollBridge TB50 and TB55 IADs are fully compatible with existing phones, modems, faxes, key systems, and PBXs. The TB55 combines multiple voice samples into a single IP packet for transmission over the SDSL broadband access network. The TB50 connects to any broadband type (Cable, DSL, Wireless, Fiber, T1) via an Ethernet port, enabling up to eight telephone lines and one data port for all broadband technologies. The TB50 can connect to the data port of the broadband modem to add toll-quality multi-line voice to existing high-speed data services.
There are six product offerings of the Intersil HC55185 that provide product performance combinations to suit both domestic and international product requirements. The HC55185 is designed to combine high voltage ringing capability with toll-quality voice performance. A member of the Intersil RSLIC18 family of products, the HC55185 is also used in cable modems, broadband wireless access platforms, residential home gateways and ISDN Terminal Adapters.
About TollBridge Technologies
Founded in March 1998 and located in Santa Clara, Calif., TollBridge Technologies-selected as one of UPSIDE's Top 100 Private Companies (May 2000)-is the leading provider of high-quality voice-over-broadband solutions to the new generation of carriers. TollBridge's solutions change the economics of delivering voice services to small-business customers by allowing carriers that own Class 5 switches to use broadband access technologies (such as DSL, cable, fiber and wireless) to bypass the incumbent local exchange carrier (ILEC) and deliver toll-quality voice and integrated data services. TollBridge Technologies today announced that Phoenix-based market research firm Synergy Research Group has confirmed TollBridge's continued market share dominance in the burgeoning market for carrier class voice-over-broadband gateways. The report, entitled "Q2 2000 Broadband Equipment Market Share, " shows that despite the entry of several competitors into the market, TollBridge retained its leading market share for the first half of 2000.
