Harris’ PRISM Radio Chip Set Technology Unanimously Selected for Best Communications Product
TAIWAN, November 11, 1998 Harris Corporation announced today that its PRISM radio chip set received the prestigious 1998 Best 3C Product Award from the Taiwan Multimedia Datum Foundation. The 3C’s Computers, Communications and Consumer Electronics comprise the 3C Award, which recognize products that have excelled within each category.
TAIWAN, November 11, 1998 Harris Corporation announced today that its PRISM radio chip set received the prestigious 1998 Best 3C Product Award from the Taiwan Multimedia Datum Foundation. The 3Cs Computers, Communications and Consumer Electronics comprise the 3C Award, which recognize products that have excelled within each category.
PRISM is the worlds first complete chip set for wireless networking that provides highly reliable and secure data transmission at 11 megabits per second (Mbps). It takes the complexity out of the design of wireless systems, such as wireless local area network links, handheld transceivers and point-to-point communications, and enables increased mobility and enhanced productivity. More than 40 systems manufacturers have incorporated PRISM in their state-of-the-art wireless networking products.
"Harris is honored to receive the 3C Award," said Ron Van Dell, vice president and general manager of Harris Semiconductors Communications Products business. "Were committed to building awareness of wireless networking, and receiving this award should give PRISM further industry recognition in the Asian market.
Harris was approached by the events organizer to submit PRISM as an entry and joined over 250 entries vying for the 3C Award. PRISM was chosen unanimously as a winner of the communications category for its unique design and reliability. The committee of judges comprised of members from the Economic Research Center; Anti-Computer Piracy Association; National Science and Technology Committees/Councils; Computer Industry Planning Committees; leading technology universities and various bodies representing sectors of the IT industry, including software development, entertainment and multimedia.
The 3C Award is organized by the Taiwan Multimedia Datum Foundation, a non-profit organization whose aim is to promote and nurture multimedia technology through the efforts of government-related agencies and academia. The event is supported by the Information Service Industry Association of R.O.C.; Economic & Trade Development Association of R.O.C.; Network Technology Development Association of R.O.C.; Exhibition Service Association of R.O.C.; Arcade Game Development Association of R.O.C.; Tam-Kang University Incubator Center of R.O.C.; Industrial Development Bureau Ministry of Economic Affairs; and Small and Medium Enterprise Administration of R.O.C.
