— New Software Provides a Complete Connectivity Solution for 802.11b Wireless Networks

SAN JOSE, CA., — Wireless Symposium (Booth #323), February 12, 2000 — Sygate^® Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of enterprise-class Internet security software solutions for the mobile enterprise generation, and Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), the world’s leading provider of silicon technology for Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs), today announced the availability of Sygate Wireless Network™ v 1.0, a dynamic IP addressing software solution that works seamlessly with Intersil's PRISM^® WLAN chip set to provide high-performance wireless access to broadband services.

Sygate and Intersil collaborated to develop the new solution, which will advance wireless networking by making it significantly faster and simpler to set-up a wireless network, while also providing seamless connectivity with enhanced roaming capabilities. Sygate Wireless Network works with Intersil's PRISM WLAN chip set to provide high-performance access to broadband services. Enterprise, small/medium business and consumer WLAN users with PRISM-based 802.11b WLAN cards will all benefit from the Sygate Wireless Network functionality. The new software solution is being showcased at Intersil’s booth (#323) at the Wireless Portable Symposium & Exhibition in San Jose, CA., February 13-15, 2001.

Sygate Wireless Network enables WLAN users to easily install and configure their wireless network adaptors and roam freely between wireless environments with seamless network connectivity. It simplifies the installation process by loading the software drivers and automatically configuring the necessary parameters. Sygate Wireless Network bridges the gap between wireless roaming and wired network diversity, permitting users to travel between different wireless environments — without the traditionally complex configuration that is required each time the user moves between network environments. It detects and implements the required network settings of new environments to permit truly seamless connectivity.

Key distinguishing features of the Sygate Wireless Network include: default setting selection during installation; automatic discovery of all wireless networks within range of the client; clean install and uninstall processes with minimal reboot and silent option; dynamic change in wireless configuration and TCP/IP settings without rebooting; identification of problems with the current networking parameters, dynamic or manual access point switching and seamless switching between DHCP and Static IP networks without user intervention.

Adoption of PRISM WLAN Technology
Since introducing the PRISM WLAN chip set in 1996, over fifty companies have incorporated PRISM chips in more than 100 product designs. In a May 2000 report, Cahners In-Stat Group called Intersil "the dominant force in the WLAN chip set marketplace with their PRISM chipsets holding the majority of market share."
