New Intersil Telecom and Datacom Power Converter ICs Drop the BOM on Network Power Solutions While Boosting Features and Performance
-- Most highly integrated push-pull and bridge PWM controllers available
MILPITAS, CA, November 19, 2003 Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high performance analog solutions, today announced the Endura ISL6740 and ISL6741, two double-ended PWM controllers designed to improve performance while reducing system costs for telecom and datacom power supplies. These advanced ICs are the most highly integrated push-pull and bridge PWM controllers available. Along with greatly reduced bill of materials (BOM) costs, the high-speed operation and advanced feature set of these ICs make them the next step and preferred choice for power supply manufacturers as system builders demand higher power density and smaller power modules.
The ISL6740 and ISL6741, with their high-speed operation and advanced feature set, are designed to control Intersils HIP2101 half-bridge MOSFET driver to complete an efficient and robust power solution, said Jeff Strang, Intersils Isolated Power Marketing Manager. This chip set combination establishes a new performance standard for telecom and datacom power management.
Telecom and datacom systems, such as Internet routers, switches, and central office DSL systems, require efficient conversion of 48-V buses to low voltages to power digital ICs such as network processors, ASICs, CPUs, and FPGAs. The ISL6740 and ISL6741 are designed for medium- to high-power (>50 W) telecom DC-DC conversion applications such as the popular eighth brick and quarter brick power modules that are used throughout communications infrastructure equipment. The ISL6740 is a voltage-mode PWM controller for use in isolated half-bridge and open loop bus converter applications. The ISL6741 is pin-compatible with the ISL6740 and supports peak-current-mode control for isolated push-pull and hard-switched full-bridge power supplies.
