IRVINE, Calif., May 26, 2000 — Intersil (NASDAQ: ISIL), a leader in power management solutions for integrated communications applications, today announced the latest addition to its Star*Power family of products. The company’s new 100-, 150-, 200-, and 250-volt Star*Power™ metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistors (MOSFETs) expand the electrical and radiation effect performance of power switching devices in space applications.

Paving the way for satellite-based data transfer, Star*Power features Radiation Hardened (RadHard) devices designed for power management applications in military and commercial satellites that withstand the high radiation environment of space. The devices deliver the low power loss and high efficiency at any switching speed, ensuring maximized power utilization.

"Satellites are a vital and growing part of integrated communication systems," said Jerry Kim product marketing manager at Intersil. "Space and other harsh radiation environments present unique challenges to the power management community. Intersil developed Star*Power devices to withstand these harsh conditions. Taken in conjunction with their superior performance, the devices are ideally suited to form the backbone of civilian and military space data transfer applications."

Intersil’s new family of RadHard MOSFETs include two product series: Star*Power and Star*Power Gold. Star*Power MOSFETs are optimized for RDS(ON) and total dose radiation performance and are rated for a total dose capability of up to 300,000 rads. Star*Power Gold MOSFETs are optimized for gate charge and are guaranteed to 100,000 rads. Intersil’s Star*Power offerings deliver the lowest on resistance available, industry leading performance in gate charge, input capacitance, AC timing and Single Event Effects (SEE) protection.

Packaging and Availability
Star Power and Star Power Gold devices are immediately available. Additional devices are currently in development. Further information on Star*Power MOSFETs can be obtained by logging onto Intersil’s Web site at www.intersil.com.
