PALM BAY, FL April 24, 2000 Intersil Holding Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a leading developer of silicon technology for integrated communications applications, announced today that its HC55185 has been selected by Copper Mountain Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: CMTN) for use in its CopperRocket® 408 Symmetric DSL (SDSL) Integrated Access Device (IAD).
The CopperRocket 408 SDSL IAD delivers multiple simultaneous services eight voice lines plus high-speed data over a single-pair, conventional copper telephone line via digital subscriber line (DSL) offering businesses, remote offices, and teleworkers a cost-effective alternative for toll-quality, multi-line voice and high-speed broadband services.
" The Voice over DSL (VoDSL) market is expected to grow from just over a million dollars this year to almost $2 billion by 2004. The fact that Copper Mountain selected our ringing subscriber line interface circuits (RSLIC) reinforces our commitment to supply innovative products in support of leading-edge communications products," said John Krehbiel, vice president of Intersils Signal Processing Products. "The advanced design of the HC55185 will enable the development of high performance communications products in support of this very exciting emerging market."
The HC55185 is a member of the Intersil RSLIC18 family of products, which is used in remote subscriber units. The HC55185 is a high quality, cost-effective voice interface solution that uses the lowest power and provides the longest ringing loop range with minimal board space area in communications products. It is the only single chip RSLIC that combines guaranteed 100V operation with low 80mW standby power and low active power consumption in a non-proprietary solution. With the high operating voltage, subscriber loop lengths can be extended to 5,000 feet and beyond.
There are five product offerings of the HC55185 that provide high battery voltage grading options for applications over longer distances, longitudinal balance for enhanced voice clarity, and temperature ranges that meet commercial or industrial standards. The voltage feed amplifier design uses low fixed loop gains to achieve high analog performance with low susceptibility to system induced noise. In addition to VoDSL, the HC55185 is used in Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP), Cable Modems, Short Loop Access Platforms, Remote Subscriber Units and Terminal Adapters.
