Intersil's PRISM Wireless LAN Solution Provides Wireless Connectivity for Gemtek's Easy Presentation Station

-- WX-2301 Easy Presentation Station enables users to make graphical presentations wirelessly~-- PRISM WLAN technology provides connectivity to multiple users up to 300 feet from projector

IRVINE, CA, August 26, 2002 – Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high performance analog and wireless networking solutions, today announced Gemtek Technology, an industry-leading provider of wireless broadband solutions, has integrated a PRISM® chip set in its newly released WX-2301 Easy Presentation Station. The WX-2301 allows multiple wireless users to make real-time visual presentations in meeting rooms and auditoriums.

The Gemtek WX-2301 Easy Presentation Station is an IEEE 802.11b-compliant projector controller that enables wireless PC users to project PowerPoint™ and other data in meeting rooms, auditoriums and other presentation environments. Users up to 300 feet away from the Presentation Station can employ VGA-equipped devices, like LCD panels and monitors, to display presentations in real time through the use of User Datagram Protocol (UDP), a data-transfer protocol that supports multiple, concurrent users. Connectability for client devices is assured through both infrastructure and ad-hoc networking modes.

“The Gemtek WX-2301 Easy Presentation Station is yet another illustration of the versatility and potential of Intersil’s highly integrated PRISM chip set solution to provide wireless connectivity,” said Larry Ciaccia, vice president and general manager for Intersil’s Wireless Networking Product Group. “Wi-Fi functionality is opening up new avenues of data and visual communications in education, the home, business and government applications. Intersil’s PRISM technology is freeing users from wired connections and this opens up whole new possibilities for business and SOHO applications for a mobile and dynamic workforce.”

Intersil’s PRISM wireless networking chip sets are optimized for smaller form factors and embedded WLAN applications such as mini-PCI, USB or Compact Flash that are much smaller and are typically installed directly into the system during product assembly. PRISM solutions deliver wireless Ethernet networking with compliance to the Wi-Fi (IEEE’s 802.11b) global standard. Optimized for high data rate (11 Mbps) performance, PRISM-based systems are feature-rich and provide fast, reliable performance in all types of networking environments. Advanced design and process technologies reduce power consumption, design complexity and total system cost.

PRISM-based products will provide users with wireless access to networks and the Internet for fast and efficient transmission of data, video and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services.

“Gemtek’s new Easy Presentation Station adds another dimension of freedom to data and video communication through wireless technology,” said Howard Chen, Gemtek's CEO and president. “Gemtek works closely with Intersil and their PRISM development package to design products with excellent performance and at a price point that allows high-volume sales.”
