Intersil's PRISM Technology On Board New WLAN Products by TROY Wireless

-- TROY's EtherWind™ provides easy-to-use 802.11b wireless print server connectivity

IRVINE, CA, February 11, 2002 – Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), the world’s leading developer of silicon technology for Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs), announced today that its PRISM® WLAN technology has been incorporated into a new Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11b) wireless print server and PC card from TROY Wireless, a division of TROY Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:TROY) and a leader in short-range wireless connectivity. TROY’s PRISM-based products will now be widely accessible to customers worldwide through major distributors and resellers.

“TROY’s new wireless print server further demonstrates the endless applications of PRISM technology in the home and enterprise environment,” said Larry Ciaccia, vice president and general manager of Intersil’s Wireless Networking Business. “Along with outstanding Wi-Fi products, TROY delivers a powerful point of entry for our industry-leading PRISM products, with a global distribution channel that includes the likes of Ingram Micro and Tech Data.”

TROY’s line of PRISM-enabled Wi-Fi products includes the EtherSync™ PC card that provides 802.11b connectivity to notebook computers and the EtherWind full-featured wireless 802.11b print server that allows WLAN users to remotely print documents without a wired connection. The products are available through a distribution network that encompasses the United States, Canada, Europe, and the Pacific Rim.

The EtherWind print server features a simple-to-use Java-based setup utility that works on the Windows, Macintosh and Linux operating systems. The EtherSync PC card provides Wi-Fi connectivity for notebook computers and can be used in almost any application where a notebook needs connectivity to a wireless network.

“Intersil’s PRISM technology enables us to integrate printers into wireless networks and offer a complete end-to-end WLAN solution to our IT and consumer users,” said Patrick J. Dirk, chairman of TROY Group, the parent company of TROY Wireless. “Intersil is the leader in Wi-Fi chip sets and was the logical choice when designing our PC card and print server.”

PRISM is the most highly integrated WLAN chip set on the market today, delivering wireless Ethernet networking with compliance to the IEEE’s 802.11b global standard. Optimized for high data rate (11 Mbps) performance, PRISM-based systems are feature-rich and provide fast, reliable performance in all types of networking environments. Advanced design and process technologies reduce power consumption, design complexity and total system cost.

The Global Wireless Market Embraces PRISM WLAN Technology
“Intersil is the number one manufacturer of wireless LAN chipsets and has been a driving force behind the success of WLANs,” said a May 2001 WLAN report from Cahners In-Stat Group. Since introducing the PRISM WLAN chip set in 1996, industry-leading companies including Accton, Actiontec, Alcatel, ASUSTeK, Casio, Cisco, Compaq, 3Com, Dell, D-Link, GemTek, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Intel, Legend, Linksys, Nokia, Nortel, Panasonic, Quanta, Samsung, Sharp, Siemens, SOHOware, Sony, SpectraLink, Symbol, Z-Com and Zoom have incorporated PRISM chips in WLAN product designs. PRISM technology is designed to comply with the IEEE’s 802.11 global standard, and Intersil is a founding sponsor of the Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance (WECA), whose Wi-Fi brand is a mark of compatibility for 802.11-based systems.
