Intersil's PRISM Technology Enables Wireless Connectivity for the New Danam Communications LAN+ADSL Home Gateway
-- Danam Communications combines the high speed of ADSL and the convenience of wireless LAN
IRVINE, CA, April 30, 2002 Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), the worlds leading developer of silicon technology for Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs), announced today that Danam Communications is using Intersils PRISM® 2.5 chip set in their new LAN+ADSL Home Gateway.
The Danam LAN+ADSL Home Gateway supports high speed ADSL Internet access, with data rates up to 8 megabits-per-second (Mbps) into the home. With the PRISM 2.5 wireless LAN chip set built in, the gateway device provides users the ability to wirelessly network multiple computers in the home or surf the Internet anywhere in the home with a notebook or handheld device equipped with a wireless PC card complying with the Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11b) standard.
The new Danam LAN+ADSL Home Gateway combines two of todays most exciting high speed technologies, ADSL and Wi-Fi, said Dave Feller, director of Marketing for Intersils Wireless Networking Business. Intersils PRISM wireless networking chip set is optimized for smaller form factors and embedded WLAN applications that enables our customer partners such as Danam to quickly develop and deploy innovative products aimed at home and business users.
Danam reviewed several wireless semiconductor manufacturers and determined that Intersils outstanding engineering expertise, leadership in wireless technology and commitment to its customers made Intersil an ideal technology partner, said Jay Park, sales manager at Danam Electronics. Our LAN+ADSL gateway offers an outstanding combination of technology that will enable our customers to enjoy the benefits of high speed Internet access anywhere around their homes.
PRISM is the most highly integrated WLAN chip set on the market today, delivering wireless Ethernet networking with compliance to the IEEEs 802.11b global standard. Optimized for high data rate (11 Mbps) performance, PRISM-based systems are feature-rich and provide fast, reliable performance in all types of networking environments. Advanced design and process technologies reduce power consumption, design complexity and total system cost.
The Global Wireless Market Embraces PRISM WLAN Technology
Intersil is the number one manufacturer of wireless LAN chipsets and has been a driving force behind the success of WLANs, said a May 2001 WLAN report from Cahners In-Stat Group. Since introducing the PRISM WLAN chip set in 1996, industry-leading companies including Accton, Actiontec, Alcatel, ASUSTeK, BroMax, Casio, Cisco, Compaq, 3Com, Dell, D-Link, GemTek, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Intel, Legend, Linksys, NETGEAR, Nokia, Nortel, Panasonic, Quanta, Samsung, Sharp, Siemens, SOHOware, Sony, SpectraLink, Symbol, Z-Com and Zoom have incorporated PRISM chips in WLAN product designs. PRISM technology is designed to comply with the IEEEs 802.11 global standard, and Intersil is a founding sponsor of the Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance (WECA), whose Wi-Fi brand is a mark of compatibility for 802.11-based systems.
