Intersil's PRISM Technology Enables Wi-Fi Connectivity for Sharp Electronics New Notevision 802.11b Wireless Projector
-- NotevisionM25X enables multiple users to wirelessly project presentations~-- PRISM technology delivers WLAN capability with compliance to 802.11b global standard
IRVINE, CA, November 19, 2002 Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high performance analog and wireless networking solutions, today announced that Sharp Corporation has selected Intersils PRISM® Wireless Local Area Networking (WLAN) chip set to provide Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11b) connectivity for their new NotevisionM25X wireless projector that maximizes business productivity in meetings.
The NotevisionM25X uses Sharps exclusive image compression algorithm to permit real-time data transmission over a wireless network. Weighing only 5.8 pounds, the NotevisionM25X features native XGA resolution and 1900 ANSI Lumens brightness, features found in heavier, more expensive projectors. Sharps newly developed vector quantization (VQ) technology makes it possible to compress and decompress still images with high compression rates and high image quality. The NotevisionM25X enables multiple wireless PC users to project presentations and other data without physically wiring each PC to the multimedia projector.
Sharps new NotevisionM25X wireless projector is a great example of a new class of innovative products being enabled by PRISM and Wi-Fi functionality, said Larry Ciaccia, vice president and general manager of Intersils Wireless Networking Product Group. The development of new and specific Wi-Fi business applications and products demonstrates how 802.11b technology is changing the way business gets done in the home-office and in the enterprise.
Intersils PRISM chip sets are the most highly integrated WLAN silicon solutions on the market. PRISM chip sets deliver wireless Ethernet networking with compliance to the Wi-Fi (802.11b) global standard. Optimized for high data rate (11 Mbps) performance, PRISM-based systems are feature-rich and provide fast, reliable performance in all types of networking environments. Advanced design and process technologies reduce power consumption, design complexity and total system cost.
Intersils PRISM 2.5 chip set has enabled us to quickly develop a product that goes beyond basic wireless networking, said T.Abumi, the LCD Projection Systems Division General Manager, Sharp Corporation. The PRISM WLAN solution offers us the Wi-Fi compatibility and functionally necessary to ensure that the product will have broad-base appeal.
