Intersil's PRISM Indigo 5 GHz Chipset Makes Market Debut in New BroMax 802.11a Wireless LAN PC Card
-- Intersil to begin production shipments of 5 GHz Indigo chip set in the third quarter~-- BroMax's FreePort 5 GHz WLAN card to hit store shelves this fall
IRVINE, CA, June 6, 2002 Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high performance analog and wireless networking solutions, announced today that BroMax Communications has selected Intersils PRISM Indigo 5 GHz WLAN chip set as the silicon solution for the BroMax FreePort 802.11a compliant wireless LAN PC card.
The FreePort 5 GHz WLAN card complies with the IEEE 802.11a standard for wireless data transmission and will deliver fast 54 megabit-per-second (Mbps) data rates for high-speed wireless connectivity in the home and office. FreePort supports most popular operating systems: Windows 95/98/2000/NT 4.0/ME/XP and Linux.

Intersils PRISM Indigo WLAN chip set, currently sampling with full production slated for the third quarter, extends Intersils industry-leading chip set offerings into the 5 GHz range, with full compliance to the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11a standard. Intersil expects new PRISM-based 5 GHz products will significantly contribute to this market by complementing existing Wi-Fi implementations and opening the door to new applications.
