Intersil’s PRISM® II Used by D-Link in New Wireless Networking Products

— New D-Link Wireless Adapters and Access Point for home and office

IRVINE, CA, November 2, 2000 — Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), the world’s leading developer of silicon technology for Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs), today announced that D-Link Systems Inc., a leading manufacturer of networking data communications and digital electronic products, has integrated Intersil’s PRISM II WLAN chip set into its new D-Link Air DWL-Series of network adapters and Access Points.

"D-Link’s new portfolio of products are available through major retail distribution channels and provide affordable IEEE 802.11b high-data-rate wireless networking solutions for the home and business, " said Larry Ciaccia, vice president and general manager for PRISM Wireless Products at Intersil. "D-Link’s Air series of wireless products will give people access to information, entertainment, voice and video content wherever they are in the home or office."

"D-Link did an extensive review and determined that Intersil’s PRISM II chip set provides the most powerful wireless networking solution available on the market today," said Steven Joe, president of D-Link. "Intersil’s PRISM II delivers the affordability, performance, quality, and ability to meet the explosive growth of the wireless market that makes them the best choice to meet the demands of D-Link and our extensive base of customers."

The D-Link Air DWL-500 WLAN PCI card is a high-speed 11 megabits-per-second (Mbps) IEEE 802.11b-compliant wireless network adapter that plugs into a desktop’s PCI bus slot. The D-Link Air DWL-650 is designed for a notebook PC and plugs into the notebook’s PCMCIA slot.

The D-Link Air DWL-1000AP Ethernet wireless Access Point provides an access point connection that builds infrastructure for the network or extends the reach of the network communications capability. As an Ethernet-to-wireless bridge, the D-Link Air DWL-1000AP can be directly connected to a broadband residential gateway or a xDSL/cable modem to provide high-speed wireless Internet access.

D-Link will sell its affordable D-Link Air wireless networking products to retail outlets, select broadband providers, and VARs for the home market and small to medium businesses.

Adoption of PRISM WLAN Technology
Since introducing the PRISM WLAN chip set in 1996, over fifty companies have incorporated PRISM chips in more than 100 product designs. In a May 2000 report, the Cahners In-Stat Group called Intersil "the dominant force in the WLAN chip set marketplace with their PRISM chipsets holding the majority of market share." PRISM technology is designed to comply with the IEEE’s 802.11b global standard, and Intersil is a founding sponsor of the Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance (WECA), whose Wi-Fi™ brand is a mark of compatibility for 802.11b-based systems. PRISM chips are used in WLAN systems from industry-leading companies including Alcatel, Cisco, Compaq, 3Com, Dell, D-Link, Nokia, Nortel, Samsung, Siemens, SpectraLink, Symbol Technologies and Zoom.
