Intersil's New Low-Voltage Dual-Supply Analog Switches Offer High Performance in Very Small Packages

IRVINE, CA, August 14, 2002 – Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high performance analog and wireless networking solutions, today announced two new additions to their MightyMUX™ high-performance analog switch line – the ISL84516 and the ISL84517. Both switches are single-pole single-throw (SPST) configured and operate from a ±1.5 V to ±6 V dual-polarity supply. The ISL84516 has normally open (NO) contacts while the ISL84517 has normally closed (NC). These new low-voltage, low-power switches reinforce Intersil’s commitment to supplying portable and high-performance markets with enabling solutions.

Targeted applications include portable battery-powered equipment in which space and power consumption are concerns and high-precision equipment used for medical, communications, multimedia and testing. Low leakage currents (1 nA max) lengthen hold times in sample-and-hold-circuits, and fast switching speeds (tON = 40 ns, tOFF = 30 ns) reduce propagation delay in timing sensitive applications. These switches offer minimal charge injection (10 pC) to maximize signal integrity. This combination of features makes Intersil’s newest switches an ideal solution for low-power space-constrained applications.

Available in both the 8-lead SOIC and 5-lead SOT-23 packages, the ISL84516 and ISL84517 are pin compatible with the Maxim MAX4516 and MAX4517 devices. By maintaining a second supplier in high-volume applications, customers reduce their risk of part shortages when industry demand strains supplier capacity.
