Intersil's New 550MHz Differential Drivers/Receivers Slash Power Consumption by 75%
MILPITAS, CA, August 11, 2003 Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high performance analog and wireless networking solutions, today introduced a new family of high-speed amplifiers designed to transmit and receive high-speed analog signals such as video over twisted-pair lines or other noisy environments. Intersils Elantec® EL517X op amp portfolio includes drivers and receivers that offer high frequency, high slew rate operation, short circuit protection and very low power consumption.
The latest additions to our growing Elantec amplifier family are tailor-made for todays noisy cabling environments that require high bandwidth and low distortion. The best in industry power consumption allows system designers to significantly curtail their power budget, said Sameer Vuyyuru, Director of Marketing for Video and Amplifiers for Intersils Elantec Product Group. Our EL517X family of differential amplifiers gives our customers the high bandwidth performance, noise rejection and low power operation needed to drive and receive video and other high-speed data over twisted-pair phone lines. The family will grow to include everything from low cost, single differential receivers to high bandwidth, high slew rate triple amplifiers.
Intersils Elantec EL517X high-speed amplifier family includes 250 Megahertz (MHz) and 550 MHz differential line receivers, and 250 MHz and 550 MHz differential twisted pair drivers. The 250 MHz receiver, EL5172, features 800 volt per microsecond slew rates while operating from a low 8mA supply current. The 500 MHz receiver, EL5175, is a single line receiver that features 600 volt per microsecond (typical) slew rates from a 9mA supply current. All devices in the EL517X receiver family feature a differential input range of +/-2.3 volts and operate from a single 5-volt or dual +/- 5-volt supply. They are stable for a gain of one and require two external resistors to set the voltage gain.
Differential twisted-pair drivers in the new Elantec high-speed amplifier family include the EL5171 250 MHz single amplifier that features 800 volt per microsecond slew rates from an 8mA supply current. The new EL5174 single amplifier offers 550 MHz of bandwidth at -3dB and 1100 volt per microsecond slew rates. Both drivers offer two feedback inputs, giving the user the ability to set the gain of each device (stable at a minimum gain of one). The EL5171 and EL5174 feature 50mA output current, and the outputs are short circuit protected to withstand temporary overload conditions.
