Intersil’s Family of Radiation Hardened Devices Delivers Power Designs For Aerospace Industry

— Family includes gate devices, encoders and flip-flops

PALM BAY, FL, November 1, 1999 — Intersil Corp. announced today its advanced logic family of Radiation Hardened (Rad Hard) Qualified Manufacturers List (QML) devices. The family includes gate products, flip-lops and encoders. All products are designed for implementation in high speed applications, sensor monitoring and low power designs in the military and commercial aerospace industry.


PALM BAY, FL, November 1, 1999 — Intersil Corp. announced today its advanced logic family of Radiation Hardened (Rad Hard) Qualified Manufacturers List (QML) devices. The family includes gate products, flip-lops and encoders. All products are designed for implementation in high speed applications, sensor monitoring and low power designs in the military and commercial aerospace industry.

Intersil’s ACSXXX family is fabricated on a complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) silicon on Sapphire (SOS) process. This process provides Single Event Latch-up immunity and the capability of highly reliable performance in any radiation environment. The result is a family of devices that offers significant power reduction and faster performance. All parameters are tested and guaranteed to 300,000 Rad over the full military temperature range and are processed to meet MIL-PRF-38535 requirements. Intersil engineered the ACSXXX family to deliver longer mission life and superior system performance with lower qualification costs.

The ACSXXX family contains several product areas. The ACS175MS, ACS109MS and ACS174MS are flagship flip-flop products. All are double level metal CMOS SOS devices. The ACS174MS is a hex D-type flip-flop, and the ACS175MS is a quad D-type flip-flop with reset, transferring information at the D input to the Q output on the positive-going transition of the clock. The ACS174MS controls six flip-flops and the ACS175MS controls four flip-flops by a common clock and common reset. Intersil’s ACS109MS is a dual J-K flip-flop with set and reset, delivering independent J, K, set, reset and clock inputs and Q and Q outputs. The outputs change state on the positive-going transition of the clock.

The family also features Rad Hard NAND, NOR and AND gate devices. The ACS21MS is the flagship AND gate product featuring dual four-input. The product ensures that for each gate, a high level on all inputs results in a high level on the Y output, and conversely, a low level on any input results in a low level on the Y output. NOR gate devices are represented by the ACS27MS, a triple three-input device ensuring that for each gate, a high level on any input results in a low level on the Y output, and a low level on any input results in a high level on the Y output. Intersil’s NAND gate flagship product, an eight-input ACS30MS, delivers a low level on the Y# output when all inputs have a high level, and results in a high level on the output when there is a low level on any input.

Intersil’s ACSXXX family also includes encoders that are represented by the flagship product ACS147MS. A double level metal, CMOS SOS ten-to-four line priority encoder, the device accepts data from nine active low inputs and provides a binary representation on the four active low outputs. The encoder assigns a priority to each input, ensuring that the highest-priority input is represented on the output. The ten-to-four line priority encoding functions provided through the use of the implied decimal zero are encoded when all nine data inputs are high, resulting in all four outputs being high.
