IRVINE, Calif., January 25, 2001 Intersil (NASDAQ: ISIL), a leading provider of silicon technology for wireless access and communications analog markets, today unveiled a home gateway power management product family designed to enable advanced features in residential broadband communication devices. Part of Intersils Endura power management product line, Endura home gateway power management integrated circuits (ICs) include single and multiple-output DC-DC power controllers as well as Universal Serial Bus (USB) host hot-plug ICs. Endura ICs for home gateways target broadband appliances such as cable modems, set top boxes and broadband wireless-access subscriber terminals.
Intersils Endura ICs for home gateways provide system designers with highly efficient, cost effective, broadband power management building blocks. Multiple-output pulse width modulators (PWMs) and linear regulator ICs are power-control circuits that convert and regulate supply voltage and current. Intersils multi-output power management ICs combine several PWMs and linear regulators on a single chip to offer designers highly integrated and comprehensive power solutions. Intersil ICs reduce board area and circuit complexity, lowering the system cost associated with designs requiring multiple, regulated voltages.
"Next-generation broadband residential gateways will be required to process and deliver high-speed information, including Internet data, real-time streaming audio and video, multi-line Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephony and secure networking between PCs and peripherals," said Rick Furtney, vice president and general manager of Power Management products at Intersil. "Broadband residential gateways will require advanced processors and interfaces that demand multiple voltages, high currents and precise regulation. As a company thats now entirely focused on high-growth communications markets, Intersil is well positioned to support customers in the explosive residential broadband market with our extensive Endura power management portfolio and proven VoIP products."
Intersils Endura power management IC for home gateways include the ISL6520, a single output synchronous buck pulse width modulation (PWM) controller delivering an inexpensive and highly efficient solution for advanced and embedded communications processors and digital signal processing chips. The resulting output voltage is lower than the input voltage.
In the coming weeks, Intersil will release the ISL6119, a new USB dual port power supply controller that allows USB port power connections to be safely made without turning off the home gateway. The ISL6119 manages the 500-milliamp power lines available on the USB standard bus by controlling the ramp of the +5-volt USB output. If a short is detected, the USB hot plug IC rapidly limits power, protecting sensitive main system bus and peripheral electronics such as a printers and cameras.
Packaging, Availability and Pricing
Samples of the ISL6520 and ISL6119 are currently available, and production shipments for both devices will begin in the first quarter of 2001. Both the ISL6119 and ISL6520 are available in SO-8 tape-and-reel as well as bulk packages. The ISL6520 is priced at $1.05 in 10,000 piece quantities, while the ISL6119 is priced at $1.00 in 10,000 piece quantities.

Intersils VoIP Portfolio for Home Gateways
Intersils VoIP product family for home gateways includes high quality, cost-effective ringing subscriber line interface circuits that transition the connection from traditional analog lines to digital networks by providing the ringing signal to the terminal equipment without external ringing generators or relays. These voice interface solutions use low power and provide the longest ringing loop range with minimal board space in cable modem, VoIP and VoDSL applications.
