Intersil's Endura in Full Production to Meet High Performance PC Motherboard Demand

IRVINE, CA, October 18, 2001 - Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a leading provider of power management solutions for PCs, file servers and portable information appliances, today announced that Intersil's Endura power management products are in full production. Endura ICs are used to control the power on Intel Pentium 4-class motherboards. Intersil continues to gain market share with advanced power solutions to support production of motherboards with high-performance processors.
Demand for Intel Pentium 4-based PCs is ramping up very rapidly. According to data from National Purchasing Diary (NPD) covering January to July 2001 U.S. retail hardware, 1 out of 77 PCs (1.3%) sold in January 2001 contained Intel Pentium 4 processors; by July the report shows 1 out of 10 PCs (10%) contained Intel Pentium 4 processors.
"Our volume shipments and increased market share in the PC motherboard market are strong evidence that we have maintained and even broadened our lead as suppliers of PC power solutions," said Rick Furtney, vice president and general manager of Intersil's Analog Business Unit. Endura Multiphase Controllers and Drivers Lead the Pentium 4 VRM World
The efficiency and voltage precision offered by Intersil's HIP6300 series four-phase controllers and HIP6600 series MOSFET drivers for Intel Pentium 4 core supplies is the best available. Intersil's four-phase solutions operate at over 80 percent efficiency and at load currents up to 160A. The Endura ISL6311A precision controller is the world's only four-phase controller that has a 0.5 percent voltage reference specification that exceeds the requirement for next-generation Intel Pentium 4 processors.
Endura devices allow for easy duplication of designs and layouts from one Intel Pentium 4 motherboard model to another, dramatically reducing time to market and helping to establish the Intel Pentium 4 as a high-volume, mainstream processor.
