Irvine, CA., February 16, 2001 — Intersil Holding Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a leading provider of power management solutions for PCs, file servers and portable information appliances, today announced that the three largest VRM 9.0 global suppliers of voltage regulator modules (VRMs) have chosen Intersil Endura™ VRM 9.0-compliant current sharing technology to power their Intel® Pentium® 4 processors. The Intersil circuit is designed into VRM 9.0 products of Delta Electronics, Inc., Astec (a division of Emerson, NYSE: EMR) and Artesyn Technologies, Inc (NASDAQ: ATSN). Intersil estimates that more than two-thirds of the projected VRM 9.0 market will include the Endura circuit.

VRM 9.0 is an Intel power management specification that addresses the power requirements for Pentium 4-class processors used in high-availability, high-volume data environments, such as workstation, Internet access, financial institution and reservation system servers and other advanced computer systems. The specification ensures that power levels delivered to multiple processors are properly regulated.

"High performance systems adhering to the VRM 9.0 specification have the highest performance requirements on the market," said Rick Furtney, vice president and general manager of Intersil’s Endura Power Management products. "Intersil is a proven leader in developing power management solutions that meet and exceed the specifications of our customers’ power products, and we provide the lion’s share of power management solutions to the computer industry today. The quick success of our Endura VRM 9.0 current sharing technology with market leaders such as Delta, Astec and Artesyn is a testament to the support we provide for the products that connect people in the home, at work and on the go."

High-performance systems often require up to eight CPUs that demand highly regulated power levels. Multiple VRMs are required to meet the core power requirements of these processors. When VRMs work independently, current imbalances can occur, resulting in increased component temperatures, decreased system reliability and increased downtime.

Intersil’s Endura circuit confronts the current imbalance problem by configuring multiple VRMs so that they equally share the total current demand of the processors. It equalizes the load on the VRMs, resulting in higher reliability due to reduced peak thermal demands. This also allows multiple VRMs to respond to dynamic demands from individual microprocessors, resulting in enhanced performance.

"Intersil is very proud of our strong business partnerships, and of the fact that Delta, Astec and Artesyn have selected the Intersil VRM breakthrough technology as the solution to power the next generation of microprocessors," said Rick Furtney. "Intersil’s worldwide commitment of customer teams and global support of leading companies in Taiwan, China, Japan, Europe and the Americas is our number one priority."

Intersil is the world’s leading provider of desktop computer power management semiconductors. In addition to the Endura current sharing circuit, Intersil offers a complete line of multiphase power conversion semiconductor solutions, including pulse-width modulator (PWM) controllers, field effect transistor (FET) drivers, and power switching FETs.
