Intersil's Advanced Ringing SLICs Provide Cost-effective, Low-power and Space Saving Voice Interface for Vpacket's 6100 Series Voice/Data Routers
— Intersil’s RSLICS enable Vpacket’s 6100 Series voice/data routers to support all major VoIP protocols
IRVINE, CA, July 3, 2001 Intersil (NASDAQ: ISIL), a leading provider of silicon technology for wireless access and communications analog markets, announced today that Vpacket Communications, a closely-held Silicon Valley company delivering the power of converged voice/data solutions, has selected Intersils subscriber line interface circuits (SLICs) to provide the telephony interface in Vpackets 6100 Series voice/data routers.
6100 Series Voice/Data Router
Vpacket's 6100 series highly integrated voice and data access platform provides superior functionality and support for standards such as T1/E1, Frame Relay, SDSL and G.SHDSL, enabling it to be quickly and easily adapted into a variety of existing customer networks. Additionally, the 6100 series preserves voice quality, a long-standing industry problem for packet-based networks, by including a unique, patent-pending method for guaranteeing and measuring toll-quality voice services for the enterprise.
"VPacket's 6100 series routers represent a significant advancement in voice/data convergence. The 6100 enables service providers to leverage existing infrastructure and ensure a smooth transition to next generation networks. It is a strategic investment as opposed to a short term solution," said Rick Furtney, vice president and general manager of Intersil's Analog Business Unit. "Vpacket selected our market-leading HC55185 ringing SLIC as the voice on-ramp for their fine product because of its full-featured total solution."
Offering a broad range of interface and protocol support, the 6100 Series supports all major VOIP protocols: SIP, H.323 and MGCP. As a result, it allows service providers to immediately offer integrated voice and data services to business customers using a single packet switch backbone infrastructure, and at a significant cost savings.
Intersil's Market-Leading HC55185 Ringing SLIC
The HC55185 is one of the newest members of Intersil's RSLIC18 family and is a full-featured ringing SLIC www.intersil.com/design/voip/index.asp. This 7mmx7mm micro-lead-frame (MLF) version is specifically designed for high-density integration required by many integrated-access applications. The HC55185's features include onboard ring generation, low power consumption, programmable transient current limiting, integrated MTU DC characteristics, silent polarity reversal, pulse metering, on-hook transmission, tip-open ground-start operation, balanced and unbalanced ringing, thermal shutdown with alarm indicator and one of the lowest external parts counts in the industry.
"With 12 to 24 voice ports in each of our 6100 Series routers, we wanted to be sure we had the most cost-effective, low-power, and space-saving voice interface solution," said Brian Chiko, vice president of product management and marketing for Vpacket Communications. "After considering other suppliers, we are confident in our selection of Intersils advanced MLF HC55185 ringing SLICs."
The HC55185 offers a combination of advantages that has attracted a wide customer base. Key, highly desired, features singularly found in SLICs of other suppliers all exist in Intersil's popular HC55185. Nowhere else can converged voice/data systems manufacturers find the right combination of space-savings, power-savings, feature-richness, cost-competitiveness, and total support.
