PALM BAY, FL, September 24, 1999 Intersil Corp. today added to its portfolio of advanced power MOSFETs for industrial, communications and consumer markets, unveiling its new 80-volt N-channel UltraFET. The companys new patented UltraFET technology MOSFET features low
rDS (ON), low gate charge and fast reverse recovery time, and is ideally suited for applications where power management and efficiency are critical.
Intersils HUF75545 is an 80V, 75 ampere MOSFET with one of the lowest on resistance per unit area of silicon at 8.2 milliohms (10 milliohms maximum). The device is engineered to withstand high energy in the avalanche mode and also features low gate charge, fast recovery time, and a lower QRR (reverse body diode charge) for applications that require faster switching speeds and improved efficiency.
"Customers are demanding MOSFETs that are more application specific, where all of the parameters are optimized for a given topology," said Milton Peters, product marketing manager for Intersil. "To meet this need, Intersil has placed greater emphasis on the dynamic characteristics of MOSFET, such as lower gate charge, lower QRR and faster switching speeds in lieu of the traditional rDS (ON) based measure of performance. The HUF75545 products are examples of this trend and are optimized for uses in industrial, communications and consumer applications, such as switching regulators and converters, motor and relay drivers and low-voltage bus switches."
In UPS applications, this family of products is intended for operation in 48V battery systems. In the Industrial market, the HUF75545 is used in power conversion applications such as off-line UPSs, DC/AC inverters and DC/DC converters. It can also be used in motor control applications such as forklifts, electric wheel chairs and golf carts. In the communications market, the device is applied to DC/DC power supplies. Class D audio amplifiers implement the HUF75545 in the consumer market.
About UltraFET
Intersils advanced UltraFET process technology achieves the lowest possible on-resistance per silicon area, lower gate charge, improved dynamic switching characteristics, and other capabilities resulting in unparalleled device performance. UltraFET devices withstand high peak currents and energy in the avalanche mode, essential when switching inductive loads. The process also enables devices between 60V and 100V to achieve the highest levels of performance on the market today. Intersil will continue to release UltraFET products that are designed to increase our customers system efficiency requirements. In the coming months, Intersil will release our 150V and 200V UltraFETs and our next generation of products with breakdown voltages of 30V or less.
Intersil remains committed to investments in new technology, product development, and software with an emphasis on providing solutions for our customers. All Intersil UltraFET devices are fully compliant with the latest AEC Q101 specification, including the recently added preconditioning with forced moisture penetration. Intersils Power Discrete facilities are also QS9000 certified.
Pricing and Availability
The HUF75545, an 80V device at 10milliohms, is currently available in TO-220 (HUF75545P3) and TO-263 (HUF75545S3S) packages. The HUF75545P3 and HUF75545S3S are immediately available in production quantities and are individually priced at $3.50 each in 1,000-piece quantities. To reduce time to market, Intersil offers simulation models including temperature compensated PSPICETM and SABER electrical models.
