IRVINE, CAJune 30, 2000 Intersil (NASDAQ: ISIL), a leading manufacturer of power management devices, today announced the latest addition to its growing family of application specific power metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistors (MOSFETs). The HUF75617D3 is an UltraFET MOSFET designed to control fuel injectors in gasoline, direct injection applications.
The device controls the electrical current to injectors that determine the amount of fuel introduced into the cylinders of automobile engines. Direct injection systems represent the next generation fuel control technology in spark ignition engines. Previous generations of injection engines employed lower pressure injectors that required neither high voltage nor high current.
"Automotive power-plant advances will begin centering around fuel economy and acceleration in larger displacement engines," said Peter Blumenroether, marketing manager for automotive discretes at Intersil. "Intersil has developed power control products, such as the HUF75617D3, that are specifically designed to meet the demands of automotive designers."
Intersils HUF75617D3 is a 100-volt (V), 17 amp (A) MOSFET with an Rds(on)of .090 ohms. Because of the on resistance per unit area performance of Intersils UltraFET technology, the device delivers low on resistance at the 100V level in a small footprint package. The device is engineered to withstand high energy in the avalanche mode and also features low gate charge, fast recovery time and lower reverse body diode charge for applications that require fast switching speeds and improved efficiency.
About UltraFET
Intersils advanced UltraFET process technology achieves the lowest possible on-resistance per silicon area, lower gate charge, improved dynamic switching characteristics and other capabilities resulting in unparalleled device performance. UltraFET devices withstand high peak currents and energy in the avalanche mode, essential when switching inductive loads.
Intersils automotive UltraFET devices are fully compliant with the latest AEC Q101 specification, including the recently added preconditioning with forced moisture penetration, and all of Intersils Power Discrete facilities are QS9000 certified.
Availability
The HUF75617D3 is immediately available for volume production in the TO-251AA and TO-252AA surface mount packages. For more information, visit Intersils Web page at www.intersil.com, or call 1-888-INTERSIL ext. 7989.
