IRVINE, CAJune 13, 2000 Intersil (NASDAQ: ISIL), a leader in power management solutions for desktop PCs, file servers and portable information appliances, today announced the latest addition to its growing family of application specific power semiconductors. Tailored to the exacting power demands of advanced microprocessors in todays notebook PCs, the new UltraFET metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET) provides the improved power efficiency required to enable high-speed computing and Internet data transfer.
The HUF76112SK8 is designed to operate in notebook PC applications as the upper MOSFET in advanced central processing unit (CPU) platforms, such as Speedstep (Geyserville). The device features low gate charge and low input capacitance and provides consistent power to DC/DC converters which become more efficient as gate drive losses and switching losses are reduced. Intersils latest UltraFET MOSFET can deliver power efficiency well in excess of the 90 percent industry standard IPG2000 guidelines.
"Intersils UltraFET MOSFET offering plays a fundamental role in powering advanced notebook PCs," said William Peng, product marketing manager at Intersil. "Power requirements play an increasingly crucial role in notebook PC design as microprocessors become more advanced. The HUF76112SK8 meets these requirements by efficiently controlling power and significantly reducing power loss in DC-DC converter
Intersils advanced UltraFET process technology achieves the lowest possible on-resistance per silicon area, lower gate charge, improved dynamic switching characteristics, and other capabilities resulting in unparalleled device performance. UltraFET devices withstand high peak currents and energy in the avalanche mode, essential when switching inductive loads. The process also enables devices between 60V and 100V to achieve the highest levels of performance on the market today.
Intersil UltraFET devices are fully compliant with latest AEC Q101 specification, including the recently added preconditioning with forced moisture penetration. Intersils Power Discrete facilities are also QS9000 certified.
