Intersil to Showcase 802.11a Wireless Connectivity at Wireless Systems 2002 Design Conference and Expo
-- High-speed 5 GHz PRISM Indigo™ chipset makes debut with streaming audio and video demos
IRVINE, CA, February 25, 2002 Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), the worlds leading developer of silicon technology for Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs), today announced it will demonstrate high-speed 802.11a (5 GHz) wireless networking at the Wireless Systems 2002 Design Conference and Expo in San Jose, CA, February 25-28.
This will be Intersils first public demonstration of PRISM Indigo, a new 5 GHz chip set now sampling with customers that provides high speed wireless networking in compliance with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers' (IEEE) 802.11a (we are intedned to be compliant with WiFi5 but dont know if we are yet) standard. Intersil, a Gold Sponsor of the conference, will employ PRISM Indigo technology to wirelessly transmit streaming audio and video throughout its booth (#323).
The 802.11a PRISM Indigo solution will deliver high-speed wireless networking in areas with high user density conference facilities and stock exchanges, for instance where multiple access points can be installed to provide complete coverage, said Larry Ciaccia, vice president and general manager for Intersils Wireless Networking Business. Our 5 GHz PRISM Indigo solution will be important for customers who need a migration path to 5 GHz. This new product, combined with our three PRISM 2.4 GHz chip sets, underscores our commitment to provide solutions for all types of wireless LAN environments.
