MILPITAS, CA, April 1, 2004 Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high performance analog solutions, announced today that it is establishing a center for the design and development of new high performance analog products in India. Intersil Analog Services Private Limited (IAS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Intersil Corporation, has been incorporated with the Registrar of Corporations in Bangalore, India for this purpose.
The new design facility will be a center of excellence for high performance analog products, with an initial focus on the design of high-speed data converters. Additionally, it will undertake development and integration activities for associated high performance analog products. Over time, the company expects the team to expand their design activities into other analog categories including amplifiers, high-speed interface and high-speed analog-to-digital converters for various target markets Intersil addresses. The IAS team will work with Intersils marketing teams and key customers to define, develop and introduce leading edge high performance analog products.
Were very excited about establishing a design center in India and have hired a managing director and selected a site in the Bangalore region, said Michael Althar, vice president of Standard Analog Products at Intersil. Once established, the new design center will begin development work for derivative and core-based products. When the team is familiar with Intersil products and processes, well transition them to the full development of leading edge high performance analog products. We have great confidence in the caliber of the engineering talent in India overall, and Bangalore specifically; that is a primary reason why weve decided to establish a new design center in this region.
Concurrently with the establishment of the design center, Intersil is announcing the appointment of C.S. Balasubramanian (Bala) as Managing Director of IAS. In this role, Bala will have overall responsibility for the establishment of the design center including facilitation and hiring of the development team. We are very pleased to have someone with Balas talents and broad experience leading the Bangalore team and feel confident in his ability to establish and grow the facility in the coming years, said Althar. Bala brings with him experience in growing and running the Insilica Semiconductor facility in Bangalore where he was general manager, as well as having held key new product development and CAD methodology management roles with National Semiconductor, including being GM of Nationals design center in Bangalore.
Bala is currently engaged in the finalizing lease and other arrangements at a site soon to be announced. He is also actively recruiting engineers for the data converter design and layout teams. Intersil expects that the new design centers capabilities and design activities will expand into design and applications support of other Intersil product families as the team becomes knowledgeable of Intersil processes and systems; this will likely include support functions for converter-based, application specific standard product (ASSP) designs.
