Intersil Targets Graphics Card Market With New Endura Power IC
-- New Endura™ IC offers big performance in small spaces to power graphics cards
IRVINE, CA, January 25, 2002 Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a leading provider of power management solutions for PCs, file servers and portable information appliances, today announced the new Endura ISL6528 dual regulator IC targeted for the graphics card market. This small 8-lead SOIC dual regulator is ideal for graphics card applications to power both the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) and support memory. The ISL6528 power solution saves manufacturers board space, parts costs and time-to-market. Other applications for the ISL6528 include powering Application-Specific ICs (ASICs), embedded processors and various other DSP ICs.This new dual regulator was targeted from conception to provide the best possible power solution for the extensive graphics card market, said Rick Furtney, vice president and general manager of Intersils Analog Business Unit. We wanted to offer a power solution that would greatly reduce parts count and board space while providing improvements in performance. Our new design provides graphic card manufacturers with a highly integrated and optimized power management solution that will allow them to quickly bring new products to market.
The Intersil Endura ISL6528 Power Solution
Todays high-end GPUs deliver amazingly high-resolution visual effects at blazing refresh speeds. This performance requires ever increasing power consumption and the need for Intersils advanced power management technology. The ISL6528 is Intersils first graphics specific power management device that delivers power to both the GPU and memory on video cards. This dual regulator approach includes one standard-buck PWM controller for high-current supply to the graphics processor unit and a lower-current linear regulator to supply power to memory circuits.
The ISL6528 offers fully adjustable outputs (0.8 V-3.3 V) for design flexibility, a high operating frequency (600 kHz) so smaller and less costly filter components can be used, excellent voltage regulation accuracy (2%) over temperature for ensured reliability and a small external component count to save board space and costs. The ISL6528 power solution comes to the designer in the form of a reference design/evaluation platform (ISL6528EVAL1) backed by full documentation and support.
ISL6528 Pricing and Availability
The ISL6528 is available now. Price per ISL6528CB-T on tape and reel is $0.90 in thousand unit quantities.
