Intersil Ships 250 Millionth Endura Power Management IC
- Endura™ chips power over 50% of the world's Intel® Pentium® 4 processors
IRVINE, CA, October 22, 2001 - Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a leading provider of power management solutions for PCs, file servers and portable information appliances, today announced a shipment milestone - it has now shipped over 250 million of its popular Endura power management chips. Endura ICs very accurately and efficiently control power for advanced Pentium 4 processors on PC motherboards. The company began shipping Endura chips in 1997.
Intersil continues to gain market share by providing advanced power solutions that meet strict requirements for Intel processors used in PCs, notebooks, servers and workstations. Today over half of the world's Intel Pentium 4 processors are reliably powered by Intersil's Endura power solutions. Intersil is also a major provider of power ICs for core and peripheral supplies on Pentium III-based motherboards.
"Intersil's leadership position in the PC power management market continues to grow at a vigorous pace," said Rick Furtney, vice president and general manager of Intersil's Analog Business Unit. "Even as we celebrate this milestone, we remain focused on supplying the industry with the most advanced power solutions possible, optimized for new- and next-generation handhelds, notebooks, PCs, servers and workstations. We have a clear roadmap for product development to support future generations of processors."
Endura Power Management Solutions for the Entire Motherboard
Intersil's Endura HIP6300 series multiphase Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) controllers feature a high level of integration and proprietary architecture offering several system-design and performance advantages for motherboard core and ancillary supplies. Some of those advantages include:
- Intersil's innovative rDS(ON) current-sensing topology reduces overall bill-of-materials cost by eliminating the need for external current sense resistors.
- Phase staggering, coupled with other architectural features, enhances the converter's overall efficiency, improves transient response, reduces ripple and reduces the size and cost of filter components.
- The industry's most precise channel-to-channel current balance further reduces cost by eliminating the need for over-designing each converter channel.
- The controller's ability to automatically reconfigure clock frequency based on the number of utilized phases, offers designers the flexibility of designing for a three- or four-phase core supplies with the same controller IC.
- The efficiency and voltage precision offered by Intersil's HIP6300 series four-phase controllers and HIP6600 series MOSFET drivers for Intel Pentium 4 and Intel Xeon core supplies are the best available. Intersil's four-phase solutions operate at well over 80 percent efficiency and at load currents up to 160 A.
- The Endura ISL6311A precision controller is the world's only four-phase controller that has a 0.5 percent voltage reference specification that exceeds the requirement for Intel's next generation Pentium 4 processor.
- Endura devices allow for easy duplication of designs and layouts from one motherboard model to another, dramatically reducing design costs and time to market.
Other Intersil Endura power ICs, such as the HIP6500 series, have been designed to provide power control for all processor support systems. This includes power for the newer Intel 860, 850 and 845 chipsets, other chipsets, memory, I/O, graphics and peripheral power. Endura combination ICs offer two-, three-, and four-in-one power control for multiple onboard power management needs.
