Intersil Releases World's First Quad Component Video Multiplexing Amplifier
-- With 500MHz performance, the EL4342 and EL4340 are the world's fastest video muxes and can easily support UXGA resolutions.
MILPITAS, CA, April 20, 2005 Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high performance analog solutions, today announced two new highly integrated solutions for switching high-resolution RGB or HDTV signals. The EL4342, a triple 4:1 multiplexer (mux), was designed primarily for RGB or YPbPr video switching; it can accept four sources of high quality video and switch loss-free between the multiple channels. The EL4340, a triple 2:1 mux, can accept two sources and switch between them. With small footprints, the devices allow support for multiple video inputs on TVs, audio/video receivers, projectors and video switches with minimal space consumption. Prior to the release of these devices, system designers needed three discrete chips to accomplish the same functionality and performance.
Key performance parameters of the EL4342 namely 500 MHz -3dB bandwidth, only 16mA per channel supply current and a slew rate of +/-870V/us make it superior to any other mux on the market. In addition, a 0.1dB flat band of 60 MHz ensures that HDTV quality video is not degraded.
The EL4342 represents a significant cost saving for our customers over alternate solutions by virtue of the high degree of integration, said Patrick Long, marketing manager for Intersils video products. It is now feasible to use a single device across a manufacturers entire product line because of the exceptional bandwidth, small footprint and competitive cost. This will save our customers significant rework of boards to expand or reduce the number of high definition inputs they are able to support. With a variety of sources such as set-top boxes, game players, DVD players and video receivers, it is important to be able to support at least four high definition inputs in a consumer display device.
The EL4340 and EL4342 are fixed unity gain mux amps featuring high slew rates and excellent bandwidth for video switching. These devices feature a high impedance output state (HIZ) that enable the outputs of multiple devices to be wired together. A power-down mode is included to turn off un-needed circuitry in power sensitive applications; when enabled, the EL4340 and EL4342 enter standby power mode where they consume just 18mW of power. An added feature of the EL4340 is a latch enable function that allows independent logic control using a common logic bus.
EL4342 and EL4340 Features:
- 500 MHz -3dB Bandwidth
- Supports all PC outputs and HDTV standards
- 5mm x 5mm footprint
- Saves space over existing input devices
