Intersil Releases Two New Multi-voltage Supervisory ICs Offering Space Savings, Simplicity and High Accuracy
MILPITAS, CA, July 24, 2003 Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high performance analog and wireless networking solutions, today announced the release of two new voltage supervisory ICs, the ISL6131 and ISL6132. These tiny, near-chip-scale, packaged ICs accurately monitor and report on voltage conditions for up to four voltage sources above 0.7 V. Voltage monitoring is an essential function necessary to monitor the health and performance of systems that depend on tightly regulated power supplies.
The ISL6131 and ISL6132 are designed for a wide range of applications that include voltage bus monitoring for DSPs, and processors found in embedded control systems, graphics cards, intelligent instruments, network equipment, portable devices, set-top boxes and telecommunications systems. These supervisory ICs significantly ease the job of system designers by integrating monitoring and reporting functions, otherwise requiring dozens of discrete components, into a single compact package.
The ISL6131 is an under-voltage four-supply supervisor whereas the ISL6132 is a two-voltage supervisor monitoring both for under-voltage (UV) and over-voltage (OV) conditions. Both ICs feature four external resistor-programmable voltage monitoring (VMON) inputs each with a related STATUS output that individually reports the related monitor input condition. In addition there is a power good (PGOOD) reporting pin that switches to a high state when the STATUS outputs are in their correct state.
An approximately 150-ms delay ensures that the monitored supply is stable before STATUS and PGOOD are released to go high. The PGOOD and STATUS outputs are open-drain to allow OR-ing of the signals and interfacing to a wide range of logic levels. STATUS and PGOOD outputs are guaranteed to be valid with IC bias lower than 1 V, eliminating concern about STATUS and PGOOD outputs during IC power up and down. In addition, VMON inputs are designed to ignore momentary transients on the monitored supplies.
ISL6131 and ISL6132 Technical Summary
- 4-channel under-voltage monitoring (ISL6131)
- 2-channel monitoring for over- and under-voltage conditions (ISL6132)
- All voltage monitoring thresholds are resistor programmable
- 1.5 to 5.5 V nominal supply voltage (VDD)
- 150 ms STATUS/PGOOD time delay to ensure stability
- Open-drain status outputs for interface flexibility
- VDD lockout and VDD and VMON glitch immunity
- 24-pad 4 X 4 mm QFN package smaller than an 8-lead SOIC
The ISL6131IR and ISL6132IR are available now in the 24-pad 4 X 4 mm QFN package rated for the 40 deg. C to +85 deg. C industrial temperature range. The price of each part is $2.65 per IC in 100- to 999-unit quantities. Other pricing is available upon request. An evaluation platform that includes a sample of each is available (ISL613XSUPEREVAL2).
