Intersil Provides the World's First Complete Security Solution for its Entire 802.11a, b, g and dual-band PRISM WLAN Portfolio
-- Intersil expands its security offering to PRISM GT™ and PRISM Duette™ clients and AP solutions~-- New security solution allows customers to seek WPA certification for all PRISM-based products
MILPITAS, CA, March 11, 2003 Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high performance analog and wireless networking solutions, today announced the Wireless Local Area Networking (WLAN) industrys first complete security software solution for PRISM GT (802.11g) and PRISM Duette (802.11a, b & g) client and access point products. In January 2003, Intersil provided the first software upgrade for 802.11b PRISM-based client and access point products. Intersils new security solution allows its customers to seek WPA certification for all PRISM-based products.
"WLAN security is the foremost issue for enterprise IT decision-making and security has grown significantly more important for small business and home users, said Allen Nogee, senior analyst at In-Stat/MDR. Intersil is the WLAN market leader and the addition of WPA support to PRISM GT and PRISM Duette provides Intersil with the most dynamic WLAN solution for the enterprise, SOHO and home user.
Intersil was actively involved with key industry leaders in developing the Wi-Fi Protected Access security solution for the WLAN market and were proud to be the first to provide a complete security solution for our customers seeking WPA certification for all 802.11 standards, said Larry Ciaccia, vice president and general manager for Intersils Wireless Networking Products Group. We are committed to providing our customers with 100 percent standards-based WLAN solutions that comply with the IEEE standards and carry the seal of approval from the FCC.
WPA is a new industry standard security solution that provides a significant step up from the Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) security built into 802.11 products today. WPA uses the Temporal Key Integrity Protocol to provide improved over-the-air encryption of wireless data. 802.1X is used by WPA to provide a framework for robust user authentication and dynamic generation and distribution of encryption keys to computers on the network. In the enterprise, WPA is used with an authentication server to provide a centralized, manageable and scaleable security solution suitable for hundreds or thousands of users. In home and small office networks WPA can be used in a pre-shared key mode to provide the same security benefits without the need for an authentication server. About Intersil
