Intersil Provides CPU Core Power on New Motherboards for China's Largest Motherboard Manufacturer

-- Endura™ powers new motherboards that deliver high-performance video and gaming for mainstream PCs

IRVINE, CA, June 17, 2002 – Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high performance analog and wireless networking solutions, announced today that Legend QDI, the largest computer motherboard manufacturer in the People’s Republic of China, has selected Intersil to power the Intel® Pentium® 4 processor on their new motherboards which are based on the i845G and i845GL chip sets. These advanced boards are targeted for mainstream PCs and provide high-performance video and gaming.

“We are pleased that Legend QDI has once again selected Intersil’s Endura power solutions for their next-generation motherboards,” said Rick Furtney, vice president and general manager of Intersil’s Analog Product Group. “Legend QDI selected Intersil’s CPU power solutions based on performance, total BOM cost, support and quality. Intersil continues to support QDI with competitive advantages provided by the most advanced, reliable and cost-effective computer motherboard power management solutions.”

“Legend QDI is the leading PC motherboard manufacturer in China with production volumes ranging over 350,000 each month. We selected Intersil for CPU power on our newest Pentium 4 motherboards because of proven product reliability, efficiency and cost-effectiveness,” said KK Ho, senior manager of Legend QDI business unit. “Intersil is able to meet the exacting standards that we require and our customers demand.”

“Quality and reliability are extremely important to us. Intersil has developed great trust with us and has proven themselves to be far more than just an IC supplier,” said Steven Wan, general manager of R&D and deputy general manager of QDI Business Division. “New chip sets and CPUs have tougher requirements for power management to achieve the highest system performance. Intersil has the technologies to meet current and future requirements. This is important to shorten the development time for next generation motherboards. That is why we selected Intersil as our partner for power management solutions.”

New Legend QDI Motherboards
The new Legend QDI motherboards are based on the advanced Intel 845G and 845GL chip sets. These chip sets are the first to integrate a 32-bpp (bits per pixel) graphics processor, thus eliminating the need for a separate graphics card or graphics processor. These new motherboards support processors greater than 2 GHz in a 478 socket and offer a 400/533 MHz front side bus and DDR266 SDRAM memory of up to 2 GB. The i845G motherboard has an advanced AGP slot with two digital video out ports multiplexed on the AGP bus. Both motherboard platforms offer six USB 2.0 ports. These new Legend QDI motherboards are designed to bring excellent performance and value to video and gaming enthusiasts.

Intersil’s Endura Power Solutions for Pentium 4 Processor Platforms
Intersil Endura solutions to power multi-GHz Pentium 4 processor platforms, such as the new Legend QDI motherboards, are application-optimized combinations of a multiphase PWM controller and one or more MOSFET driver ICs. Intersil is the only supplier offering a dual-channel MOSFET driver IC, providing the distinct advantage of optimal power component placement due to separate PWM and MOSFET driver ICs, while keeping the chip set count to a minimum.

The Endura VRM 9.0 multiphase controller family consists of six multiphase PWM controllers: the HIP6301, HIP6301V, ISL6557 and HIP6311A are 2- to 4-phase controllers that regulate output current above 100 A and offer industry-leading output voltage accuracy as tight as 0.5%. The HIP6302 and HIP6304 are dedicated two-phase devices that control microprocessor loads in the 50-A range. The Endura MOSFET driver series includes the synchronous buck HIP6601B, HIP6603B and HIP6604B single-phase MOSFET drivers, and the HIP6602B dual-phase driver designed to drive four n-channel MOSFETs. Intersil’s Endura multiphase PWM converter solutions offer unmatched precision and flexible scalability for applications requiring 2, 3 or up to 4 phases of power control – 2 to 3 phases for today’s processors and 4 phases for next-generation processors.
