Intersil Opens New Dallas Design Center to Boost Development of Power Solutions for Notebooks, Handhelds and 48-V Applications
-- Center opens in the midst of large Texas customer base and engineering talent pool
MILPITAS, CA, December 20, 2002 Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high performance analog and wireless networking solutions, today announced the opening of a new Dallas-based design center. The centers engineers will focus on new front- to back-end Endura power management solutions to accelerate penetration into key portable, handheld and 48-V markets.
Intersils new design center is strategically located in the heart of a huge industry center comprised of many of our customers such as Intel, Dell, Compaq, AMD, Tyco and Synqor, said Rick Furtney, vice president and general manager for Intersils High Performance Analog Product Group. In addition, the area is rich with engineering talent to fill our expanding design needs going forward. These factors offer access to resources that will help us accelerate product development and market penetration.
Design center engineers are now operating out of a temporary lab until construction of an advanced facility is completed near the end of March 2003. The new facility will be a complete design center with full front-to-back capabilities including applications, IC design, product engineering and test development. Plans are to staff the new facility with upwards of 40 people. The initial design team is now fully operational with over 50 years combined industry experience.
This new design center gives us the leverage we need to gain additional traction into our target portable markets, said Dean Henderson, director of Intersils Portable Power Products. We have an ambitious roadmap before us to develop best-in-class power solutions for CPUs, memory, graphics, battery monitoring and battery charging. Emphasis will be on miniaturization, increased efficiency and the highest possible solution performance.
