Intersil Offers World's Only 300 krad Radiation Tested Linear Voltage Regulator

-- Full rad-hard testing ensures survivability for space applications and saves time and money

IRVINE, CA, December 19, 2001 – Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a leading provider of power management solutions for terrestrial and space applications, today announced a TO-39 can version of its HS-117RH, the worlds only 117-type linear voltage regulator for space power applications with electrical performance tested and guaranteed to 300 krads. This latest addition to Intersil’s growing family of Star*Power™ radiation-hardened power management ICs is the only 117-type regulator that does not require further up-screening or radiation testing for space applications, thus reducing manufacturers’ costs and cycle time.

“It is important that our space customers understand that the HS-117RH is not just another 117-type regulator,” said Tom Marshall, marketing manager for Intersil’s Space Products. “It is the only 117 linear regulator that is not just radiation rated, but fully radiation tested and guaranteed to 300 krads to ensure survivability and to save customers the additional time and costs of in-house screening for space applications.”

The space environment is extremely harsh in terms of temperature variations and radiation. To ensure survival, components such as the HS-117RH are designed in strict accordance with standards controlled by the Defense Supply Center of Columbus (DSCC). Detailed electrical specifications for the HS2-117RH are contained in DSCC document SMD 5962-9954701 and the component is qualified per MIL-PRF-38535 requirements.

HS-117RH Technical Description
The HS-117RH is the world’s only fully-tested to 300-krad, radiation-hardened, 1.2- to 37-V linear regulator. This regulator is offered in the popular TO-39 can, the TO-257AA flange mount and the surface mount SMD.5 ceramic leadless chip carrier packages.

Customers’ applications benefit from the following HS-117RH features:
  • Compliant to DSCC drawing SMD 5962-9954701
  • QML qualified per MIL-PRF-38535 requirements
  • All parameters tested and guaranteed to 300 krads over the full military temperature range
  • Dielectric isolation for latch-up immunity
  • Vertical devices architecture for improved low dose rate performance
  • 0.5 A peak output current
  • 40 V maximum input voltage
  • On-chip thermal shutdown
  • On-chip output current limiting
  • Post-rad load regulation (1.5% at 25 C)
  • Post-rad line regulation (0.02% at 25 C)
  • Selection of packages: TO-39, TO-257AA, SMD.5
The HS2-117RH is available now off the shelf in QML Class V and Class Q screening levels.
