Intersil Named One of the Top 100 Employers in Electronic Design
MILPITAS, CA, May 31, 2007- Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance analog semiconductors, has been named one of the Top 100 Electronic Design Companies to Work For by Electronic Design magazine.
The magazine chose several key criteria to select the U.S. technology and semiconductor industry leaders in providing positive employment opportunities for electronic designers. The study that led to the selection of the top 100 public companies measured many key elements.
The 10 categories were:
- Employee growth percentage (2006 vs. 2005)
- Sales growth percentage (2006 vs. 2005)
- Operating profit growth percentage (2006 vs. 2005)
- Operating profit margin improvement (2006 vs. 2005)
- Long-term debt to stockholders equity ratio improvement (2006 vs. 2005)
- 2006 total number of patents issued
- 2006 stock price closing as a percentage of 2006 stock price high
- Research-and-development expense change percentage (2006 vs. 2005)
- Design influence on semiconductor spending (dollars)
- Design influence on semiconductor spending percentage increase
Electronic Design indicated that these categories provided a balance
of information regarding financials, human resources, technology, stock market
perception and engineering. Bonus points were also awarded based upon employee
responses to questions on a 2006 Reader Profile related to job satisfaction,
tenure with the company, number of promotions and advancement potential.
Electronic Design limited its search to U.S. technology firms because
several key measuring criteria could only be tracked using data required by
Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) corporate filings.
Nonetheless, the Top 100 Employers continue to lead the way based on their
established brands and sales channels, patent and IP portfolios, and substantial
[research-and-development] budgets, wrote Electronic Design writer Mark David.
Intersil was ranked 48th in the Top 100.
Intersil has made being an employer-of-choice a key on-going goal, said
Intersil Vice President of Human Resources Vern Kelley. We think our
commitments to customers, employees, innovation and financial success are all
revealed in the results of this report.
Kelley pointed to several factors that have driven Intersils rise in popularity
among technology-oriented job seekers.
Intersil has invested millions of dollars in renovating our facilities at our
corporate headquarters and design facility in Milpitas, California, our main
manufacturing facility in Palm Bay, Florida and our design centers in various
locations such as Dallas, Texas and Irvine, California he said.
In addition to highlighting an established advancement program for engineers (Intersils
Technical Dual Ladder Program), Kelley also pointed out that 38% of new
employees are hired through Intersils Employee Referral Program.
This shows that our employees see the positives of working at Intersil to the
point that they regularly suggest Intersil to qualified colleagues. Intersil has
assembled one of the most experienced and talented technical teams in our
industry, along with an equally matched management team, he said.
Other notable companies making the Electronic Design Top 100 were Apple
(1), AT&T (5), Hewlett-Packard (12), Microsoft (27), General Electric (41), Dell
(56), Xerox (68), Intel (89) and Eastman Kodak (94).
