Intersil Launches Star*Power Hardened Space ICs
IRVINE, CA, January 10, 2001 — Intersil (NASDAQ:ISIL), a leading developer of silicon technology for space communications applications, today introduced two new single event effects (SEE) hardened products for use in satellite power control circuitry. The new IS-139ASRH SEE Hardened Quad Comparator and the IS-1845ASRH SEE Hardened Pulse Width Modulator (PWM) join Intersil’s growing Star*Power™ portfolio of power management devices specifically designed to provide highly reliable performance in harsh radiation environments.
IRVINE, CA, January 10, 2001 Intersil (NASDAQ:ISIL), a leading developer of silicon technology for space communications applications, today introduced two new single event effects (SEE) hardened products for use in satellite power control circuitry. The new IS-139ASRH SEE Hardened Quad Comparator and the IS-1845ASRH SEE Hardened Pulse Width Modulator (PWM) join Intersils growing Star*Power portfolio of power management devices specifically designed to provide highly reliable performance in harsh radiation environments.
Designed and constructed with Intersils radiation hardened silicon gate (RSG) dielectrically isolated process, these devices are single event latch-up immune. The IS-139ASRH provides a single event upset (SEU) immunity to 82 MeV/mg/cm2, while the IS-1845ASRH provides an SEU immunity of 35 MeV/mg/cm2. All parameters are tested and guaranteed to 300 krad(Si) total dose over the full military temperature range. These features provide "glitch-free" operation, eliminate mitigation circuitry and can significantly enhance system performance and reliability in heavy ion environments.
"Intersils new quad comparator and pulse width modulator are the first and only tested and guaranteed radiation and single event upset hardened ICs currently available to the commercial and military space market that perform these particular functions," said Tom Marshall, Space Products Mkt. Mgr. at Intersil. "These devices complement Intersils current portfolio of industry-leading Rad Hard products. We are pleased to provide this quad comparator and pulse width modulator to the growing space communications market."
The IS-139ASRH compares two analog input voltages and provides a digitized output of the result. These products are well suited for use in data acquisition sub-systems and power supplies in communication satellites. The IS-1845ASRH PWM is a radiation and single event hardened version of the industry standard 1845A current mode PWM. The device is designed to control power MOSFET drivers, or power MOSFETs directly, in DC-DC converter and motor control applications by monitoring the output voltage and adjusting switching pulse widths to maintain the desired voltage level.
Packaging and Availability
Intersils IS-139ASRH Quad Comparator is immediately available for sale as either QML Class Q or V in 20-lead flatpack packages. The IS-1845ASRH PWM is also immediately available as either QML Class Q or V in 18-lead flatpack packages or in 8-lead DIP packages.
