Intersil Introduces New PWM Step-Up Regulator for TFT-LCD Displays and Portable Equipment Applications
-- EL7516 provides improved performance and output capability compared to competitive devices
MILPITAS, CA, July 6, 2004 Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high performance analog solutions, today introduced the EL7516, a new highly efficient and fully integrated boost regulator with a selectable 600-kHz or 1.2-MHz switching frequency. This new boost converter is ideally suited for thin-film transistor (TFT) liquid-crystal displays (LCDs) for computer monitors and TVs, and portable equipment applications such as digital cameras and GSM/CDMA cell phones. The EL7516 is a direct plug-in performance upgrade for many existing regulator sockets.
The EL7516 adds to our new family of DC/DC regulators that are providing industry-leading performance at a price that meets our customers cost reduction goals, said Michael Jennings, director of marketing for Intersils Display Products. Intersil is already a leader in the VCOM and gamma buffer market and our new family of regulators includes standard products like the EL7516, as well as fully integrated multiple-output devices such as our new EL7585 and EL7520 product families.
The EL7516 features a 1.5-A integrated FET, which only has 200 milli-ohms of on resistance. It can operate with supplies as low as 2.5 V, which is required to support the latest generation of notebook designs and can also operate on 5 V for monitor applications. The EL7516 also has selectable 600-kHz or 1.2-MHz switching frequency, allowing for the highest efficiencies (greater than 90 percent) no matter what the input/output ratio.
EL7516 Key Features
- 1.5 A, 200 milli-ohm MOSFET
- Up to 600-mA output current
- 2.5 V to 5.5 V input capable (VDD)
